Virtual Sea Life - Games, Apps, Screensavers, and More! Share and Discuss!

Once again I find myself inspired by a totally different thread. Today's topic is virtual sea life. We're talking about anything from fish tank screensavers to undersea adventure video games. So come share the ones you know and maybe try out something new and tell us what you think of it!

Kicking things off, I'll start with what I consider sort of the definitive entry to interacting with sea creatures, Endless Ocean. Both the original and the sequel are unfortunately Wii only titles, but if you can play them they are incredible. It is basically a diving simulator where you swim with fishies, sharks, and whales, train dolphins to do tricks, and curate your own aquarium tank. It also has awesome music!

I'd also like to point out a few different screensavers. My personal favorite and the only one I own personally is Goldfish Aquarium 2.0. It has very nice graphics of a small selection of different goldfish, mostly fancy ones, and a few different views and backdrops that it can cycle through. There are a lot of settings to play with to customize it to your liking. Support in my experience has been prompt but condescending. You can visit the site for it here: http://www.lifeglobe.com/product/Goldfish/

There is also Ocean Dive, which I don't own but am seriously considering. It claims to be both a screensaver and a game where you explore various undersea areas including some ancient ruins. Exploring is only in the paid version, but the basic screensaver is free. If you do get it, let the rest of us know what you think of it. http://www.oceandive.com/

Finally, one of my favorite little apps on my iPad, Kind of Fishy. There aren't any actual fish in this, just fish shaped driftwood that swims around under an old pier. It is charmingly weird and very relaxing. It looks to be available for both IOS and Android systems. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...as.fishy&hl=en

    I love them all!!!
I would love to play to Endless Ocean I saw a beautiful video of a player with a whale shark and when it showed it was like seeing it in real life without being wet 😂

Anyway if this can interest you I had for PC a software that was developed as a screen server and then as a game.

It is called Digifish and it has 10 different themes and one of them is called"Ancient Fish" where you can see swimming different species of ancient fishes like the ones you where talking about in the other thread!

In the other versions you can develope your own virtual aquarium or see the "natural" behavior of some species.

I still have the software if you want to try them on your PC I won't mind to share them 😊

It looks like they have free demos on their website, so I'll try one of those.

And you reminded me I completely forgot to mention the video game Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure. It is, quite honestly, pretty lousy to play. I think the movie it was based on is probably good, but the game suffers from lousy controls and rollercoastering difficulty levels. But it does let you play as a few different extinct marine species, so that's cool. It is on Wii, PS2, and DS.

Also on DS are Aquarium and Fantasy Aquarium, which are basically about setting up and maintaining a bunch of little aquariums. It is pretty simple and gets boring after a while, but to someone who has the right and finds a cheap copy, it may be worth picking up.

You know I'm now remembering about a video I've seen in YouTube about an aquarium where they had virtual mermaids on a waterfall.

If I find it again I'll post it!

    Cool thread!

There are many animated screensavers out there, but if they're free, they usually try to install a trojan on your PC, so beware.

I can confirm what Ciriun said about the Prehistoric Adventure.
It's a neat idea, but you can learn more if you just read up about the marine reptiles elsewhere, and because of the clunky mechanics, I found drifting around in SL with my Mosasaur avatar much more appealing xD

That said, SL is nice if you just want to swim around in beautiful underwater scenery (just go to an underwater or mermaid SIM).
There are plenty of free and almost-free avatars which are underwater themed too, even plesiosaurs and a slew of fish, crabs, jellyfish, ammonites...it's cool, but gets boring if you don't find something to do eventually.

Afanc, you could take a look at this list to see if it happens to be on there: http://appadvice.com/appguides/show/...-aquarium-apps

And looking up all this virtual fish stuff, I just found a new game that should I should be getting delivered in the next few days, Wii Fishing Resort. While the focus is obviously on catching the fish, the ones you catch then go into your aquarium to be on display and you can visit to watch them swim. Maybe not exactly what most people would be looking for, but I'm a fan of fishing games since nothing actually gets hurt.
