Laughing so hard at your face while staring down the box. I might have scared my fat cat away. I frickin love where you're going with your scales. I agree on the round scale thing, I think it looks almost cartoonish to have them so little and perfectly round. I wanna try tackling this project myself soon, and that scale chart is super helpful. I can't wait to see where this goes.

Thanks :3 I deal with THIS EFFING MESS OF A PROJECT by trying to laugh about it. Or else I'd murder things.

Getting frustrated. I have a scale drying with a couple layers of acrylic but in the meantime here are my first two tests with a thin layer first:

I forgot to put ease release on the first one

Urethane rubber. I've talked about it in a few different threads here and there. If you search my name and "urethane" you should be able to find them pretty easily.

Selkish vs. The Individual Scale Silicone Tail

O FRABJOUS DAY! A BUBBLE FREE MOLD.

I found Fimo in my craft supplies (glow in the dark flavor) so I made a new scale and while there are bubbles on the outside of the negative slab, the actual negative looks clear!

Okay so I have silicone in the smooth molds. Getting white glow clay out of a white mold is kinda frustrating. I had to sit in my dark bathroom scraping it out because I don't have a black light and its the darkest room in the house. I've decided to make the most of the situation and my materials and sculpt more scales out of my Fimo and cast one more large scale with said Fimo cast. I can supliment my new scales with the silicone ones cast while I sculpt. That might cut my time down. I'll get a new resin for the fuke and burn that bridge when I get to it. -sigh-

At least I have some time to fret about my colors again.

Also here are all my rejects:

Sorry if I didn't see but how about a thin layer of resin first? then just keep putting more layers, a thin layer first doesn't heat up as much as a thick layer. Ignore me if I missed it :P

I talked briefly to the company that sold me the stuff, they didn't think it would work but I might try it anyway. It seems like a good shot.

I ordered my pigments. Everyone I've talked to has reaffirmed my decision to go with precious metal tail. I look good in warm colors and it'll go with everything

Selkish vs. The Individual Scale Silicone Tail- stubborn little brute

I tried the method suggested by a few people but most recently by Ilyena and spread a thin layer of resin over the positive and let it dry, poking it and brushing it to ensure no bubbles formed/disperse the oil that was released by the clay. The resultant mold was comparable to the Fimo molds which is good because maybe that means I don't have to remake my scales!!!

So now there's pearl-pigmented silicone in the "successful" molds. We'll see what we get.

    I hate waiting for things.
