Water safety is going to be my Thing. Ideas?

I don't know that I'll ever end up doing anything more than semi-professional, but I'm definitely up for using my status as a mer to raise awareness of important issues. Mostly that's conservation and safety. I believe strongly in both, but if I had to pick one, it would be safety. As a mer, that pretty much means water safety, though I'm happy to touch on anything else, like why drugs are bad.

On a beach I'd probably talk about tides, especially rips; I'm a bit fuzzy on what would be priority in a pool. Of course, the familiar refrain: there's a word for restricted limb movement in the water, and that word is DANGEROUS, so don't use a tail without supervision and a spotter.

So, what topics of water safety can I chatter about? Any and all suggestions appreciated. I'd love an extensive list.

This guide from the CDC seems to be pretty helpful:
