flex seal fin! is it a good idea? will it work?

So a while back ago( not sure if it was here) someone made a comment about a flex seal tail! I have been continuously thinking about it but I have never used that product sense it was released because I haven't had to. But now I am wondering if it would work for making fins? Has anyone ever used this product? If so please let me know how it worked for you. If any one has tried let me know how it went! And if no one has tried and if it is safe to use I'll test it and let you all know as well

*Product © disclaimer thingy so I don't get in trouble*

Product is not mine it being to the Flex Seal company. The image was found on Google and it is not mine as well. I am also not promoting this product or anything like that just curious to how it will work for my project.

You spray it on something to make it waterproof. What are you thinking of spraying it on?

My guess is it is. But to be sure: test it.

    I think it'll work, OstanaBlackwolf!

I plan on making a full tail out of FlexSeal and some neoprene sometime soon, so I'm glad someone asked the question!

I used the black flex seal on my fluke for my first tail to seal the gorilla tape that I used to extend the monofin. BIG PROBLEM! It sealed it, but it flaked off to the point I was embarrassed to take my monofin swimming because of little black flakes all over the pool. I wound up just taping over it, and using hot glue to seal it. I did thick coats too on my monofin and it still flaked off. Its meant for static items. Things that don't bend and move constantly.

Tula, what if the FlexSeal is covered in something? Like, say, clear sealant of a different brand?

This seems like a good brand: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rust-Oleu...&wl13=&veh=sem

I'm still going to make an entire FlexSeal tail, but I might put a coating over it after what you've said and see if that works... if not, silicone!

Maybe. I think the biggest worry would be if it's skin safe, or environmentally friendly. I suppose if its being used on pipes for sinks, it shouldn't be too bad.
Testing would be a good thing to try. Maybe do a layer of flex seal with out the sealer, and one with the sealer, soak them in the water and pull and stretch to see how well they hold up.

I'll definitely do that before making the whole thing, for sure!

No problem! I just remember the troubles I had. Maybe the formula has changed over the years, or even it might just be the difference between the black and clear. If the clear does flake, at least it won't be seen lol
