Ursula Dress Help

So my senior prom is coming up soon and my friend is going as Ariel, because it's a Disney themed prom. I wanted to go as something Ursula inspired to match her, because we're going together. I found the Disney Villain Designer whatever dolls, and I really liked Ursula's dress.

I like the corset top idea. I was thinking I could go with a black corset with purple lacing in the back, but I feel like the top needs something more to it. I was thinking I could put some purple sea shells on the top of the corset, and maybe decorate it with some fishing net and other things. What do you guys think? Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

That would be so cool for the ball at nc merfest I think the top is great the way it is! I think accessories is what will help add the extra pizazz you're looking for ;D I like your idea of fishing net though!

For prom, I think the dress you linked would look great! Tentacles as an Ursula costume are necessary but maybe not so much for a prom dress, haha! Definitely post whatever you end up wearing here! Ursula inspired would be SO awesome.

Does anyone have any idea where I can find a sewing pattern that might work for this? Or at least a tutorial on cascading / vertical ruffles and how to apply them?

This dress is awesome, and would look best without fishing net imo.
It's a very classy style, and fishing net doesn't really go with classy

And I agree there should be a few tentacles somewhere.

I feel like fishing net would be a little bit over kill, I think you should have a shell necklace for sure, or an octopus necklace, wear your hair up, I like the idea of black shoes, but maybe green like the eels would be cool with one yellow rhinestone glued on the side. Tentacle items as necklaces would be rocking and maybe a shell hair clip, if you want instead of the necklace?

I don't know if you are still doing this, but I went as Ursula to a party last night and here is what I wore: I had white hair, and made purple shell earrings, and a shell necklace and wore a short black dress that had frills and leggings for my tentacles. I had green shoes that I had painted with yellow dots on each side for the eels but then my knee locked up so those came off. It was a blast, and maybe it helps give you an idea. :-)
