Anyone Used These??

Okay, so, I was looking to buy some materials online for a new top, and I came across these:266162661726618 I was also thinking that if I could somehow find a large enough sand dollar, maybe I (or someone less endowed) could make a top out of that?? But I love the idea of having urchins on my top, and I was wondering if they are like starfish, I know that starfish will rot or go bad or something once they're wet but is that the same for urchins or sand dollars? Any help is greatly appreciated.

yeah i was thinking the same idea for the sand dollar top. i think sand dollars are ok though.

I have been working on a few top designs that would involve resin/silicone urchins and Sand dollars, I plan on making them as soon as I can save up enough money for the supplies.

Sand dollars are extremely fragile. Make a mold and cast them in resin or rubber. That way, you can benefit many times over on one dead thing rather than lots of them. I'm not being all self righteous our anything, I do it myself. A resin or silicone version will be a thousand times more durable than a real exoskeleton.

I use those little ones for hair pieces. They can be fragile but they're typically pretty sturdy as long as you take care when you pack them. I've seen them on a few of Raven's pieces too, even as pendants for necklaces.

Those sound great! I'm thinking I can sculpt a really big sand dollar out of clay, then make a silicone top. Or just find someone else to do it for me once I get more funds.
