Hi everyone!

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Mermaid Nessie of Halifax Mermaids. I've created a new vlog series specially some of us young mers. I find that there is a lot more younger mers popping up in the community and wanted to create a series where I can share my stories, experiences, tips and collaborate with other mers my age. ​I created this thread so I can share these vlogs, ask opinions, get suggestions, etc. So if you'd like to see me do something, throw your suggestions at me. I have lots of ideas that I will most likely end up trying to discuss with you guys in this thread. So yeah! This is the first time I've done any kind of vlogging and video editing. Say hi to me, introduce yourself, I am going to be looking into collaborating on some videos with other mers very soon :)

I'd love to know what it's like to work for a larger company! Most mermaids seem to operate on a sole basis - I only know of a few who work as part of a team. I'm sure Raina covers it somewhat in her book (which I must read) but it'd be nice to see it from an employee's perspective :)

I guess as you're targeting this to younger mers, you're probably already planning on covering this - but, being under 20, do people (clients) treat you any differently from older mers?

Maybe I'll do a question and answer video in the future! :) So I have an idea that I'd like to do, and wanted to see if there's any mers out there interested. I want to do a collab video about "What Your Parents Thought" when you told them you wanted to be a mermaid. Basically how I'm thinking of doing it is having mers record some video of them talking about this subject and have a dropbox for us all to use so I can access the video, then edit it into a big group video. Would anyone be interested in this?

Alrighty so here's what I'm thinking! I’d like to do a collab video with as many mers as possible discussing what your family/friends thought when you first told them you were/ wanted to be a mermaid. If you would like to take part here’s what you’ll need to do:1.) Find yourself something to record on. Webcam, phone, doesn’t matter!
2.) Start recording. In your video I’ll need to do a short little introduction with your mermaid name, where you’re located and whatever else you’d like to say about yourself.
3.) Then I’d like you to talk about your experience of when you told your family/friends you wanted to be a mermaid. Try to answer the following questions while you’re talking:
- When/ how did you reveal this to your family?
- Any funny/ embarrassing/ interesting stories.
- What was their reaction? (You can talk about specific family members if you’d like)
- Has their opinions changed? Why?
- How does your family feel about your mermaid life now?
*If you have anything else you’d like to talk about, feel free. These questions are just suggestions to help guide you if you don’t know where to begin*
4.) After you’ve recorded your video, send me a message and I will give you the info to upload all the raw footage to a dropbox that we will use so I can access the video!
5.) Send me a photo you’d like me to use and any kind of social media or websites you’d like me to add so I can make a big credit roll at the end.
6.) I will edit everything and allow everyone to view it before it is made public. If you would like me change anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.
I’m hoping this vlog will really get the new series going. My goal is to show as many mers, from as many places and as many different backgrounds as possible. If you are interested in taking part let me know and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m super excited for this project and am hoping it will be a success!

Watched! It was really cute, looking forward to more videos. I feel you on the candles, I'm terrified of flame or hot things in general. The idea of getting burned really freaks me out. (No, Ariel, you don't want to know what fire is or how it burns.)
I'd be really interested to hear answers to your interview! Heh, reading the questions, I think my own family would be extremely blase if I told them about mermaiding--my mother already somewhat knows. My mom and sister are so used to me doing odd things, mermaiding wouldn't be much of a surprise (they'd probably prefer that over my obsession with deformations and mutations :p )

Thank you for watching :3 I'm same same with any kind of open flame. As a kid we used to have bonfires a lot and every time I would roast a marshmallow I'd wear a swimming mask because I was scared my eyebrows/ eyelashes would get burnt off from being too close. :lol:
