Wigs underwater?

So, I cosplay and for my wigs I use a company called Arda Wigs. They've got the color and style I want, I just wanted to know how a wig would fare in chlorine pools. (Most of the mermaid and merman swim parties are in chlorine pools. Will that destroy the wigs?

I've been wondering about this as well. I wouldn't want a full wig, just some brightly colored extensions scattered through my own hair, but I'm worried that the chlorine would eat them, lol.

If the extensions are made of human hair, they'll defiantly last longer than if you so with synthetic. It also depends on if you use acrylic ink in you wigs to make a more vibrant color.

I've used a wig underwater before. I have no ardas (Yet) but it was a lacefront.
They will, if you don't wash them right away, become tangly and knotted. Be sure to bring conditioner and rinse it right after. No shampoo the first time.

Arda wigs will hold up in pool water and dont get any more tangled then real hair. My arda swim wig is almost to my knees and I can swim in it just fine. The curl stays pretty well too.
Arda uses hyperlon. Its resistant to most anything and acts like real hair. There is no need to rush wash it. Dont waste conditioner on it. Conditioner doesnt do anything to it. There isnt a cuticle on synthetic hair. A rinse in the shower after a swim is enough until you have time to wash it properly.
Washing requires shampoo, first time or not. You add shampoo to the water, not the wig and you gently swish it back and forth. Dont rub and treat it like normal hair. Lay it flat for straight wigs and pile it up for curls and let it dry on a towel.
You can use leave in conditioning spray to help detangle with a wide tooth comb or you can use a mix of fabric softner and water. Its just as effective and way less expensive.

Ive worn both. I prefer lace front because it moves more naturally. Theres a bit of 'lift' with wigs and sometimes you can see wig cap edges. But I use mine for photos so im pickier :D

My hair is getting fried from swimming with it down, but I love the look of long hair. Maybe a wig is the way to go!

I also love the look of long hair in the water- I chopped mine off about 2 years ago (it was to my butt, and now its up past shoulders).
I would presume the more high quality wig the better it would swim. I just have this idea that like a party store wig would just rat up and become something that looked like it crawled out of the shower drain.

How do you get a lacefront to stay on underwater beside bobby pinning it? I've heard that people use liquid latex and glue the front of the wig along their hairline?

Ive never used latex so I dont know how well it works. I use waterproof eyelash glue that dries clear, and bring my makeup over the lace to help it blend more.

The weight of my wig is supported by comb tooth clips (the same ones used for clip in extensions) as well as bobby pins. My wig came with some clips inside already but I needed to add a few more because im a glutton for punishment and have a wig down to my knees:lol:

I saw your pics in the picture thread, and the Luthien looked great. My big concern for mine was that the wefts would show when the wig got wet/limp, but yours looks perfect and thick :)

Sherielle, this is great to know! I have a Matilda from Arda that I'm styling for mermaiding. It is good to know it will probably hold up! My wig is the Matilda lace front, with a ton of added wefts. Its about 4 feet long. Their longer wigs usually have built in clips. If not, i buy mine from ebay for just a few bucks for a couple dozen and sew them in myself. For swimming ive found the more clips, the better!

I have a few non-lacefront Arda wigs and I love them all. I wore one at my first, and thus far only photoshoot at a lake and it worked well for me. I can't wait to give lacefront a try!

I have clips sewn into all my wigs as well, even the short ones. I'm about to take advice from jamie and buy a ton of them and sew in rows, simply because my hair is super silky and almost nothing with stay for long.

I'm really excited to try a Mythril Wig underwater.

They are a new canadian based wig retailer who started up a year or two ago. In Feb, when we move to our new place with a deeper pool, I'm going to try swimming with one and see how it holds up!

i also use a lace front wig. I just can't envision a balding merman. Since i don't have much hair to clip to, I glue in a rubber swim cap which quite firmly grips the skin of my head. :)

So I bought two wigs from wigisfashion. The blonde one was $20 and as you can tell my roots are showing. My solution?

maybe try and loosen the wig (elastic bands inside) because it looks like it is too small. typically you put your hair in the wig then glue the lace front to your forehead with wig glue and you secure it with a few bobby pins.
