Hello, everyone! I'm Lily, 20 years of age, I hail from southern PA (though I was born in Florida), and self-admitted forum stalker. I've been obsessed with mermaids, like many, ever since I was little. Mermaids and unicorns, really. My first love was, of course, Ariel, and then it just spiraled from there. Because I was born in Florida and lived there for the first years of my childhood, some of my most vivid childhood memories are of going to Disneyworld and touching Ariel's tail, sitting in her lap, admiring her hair and smile and general mermaidiness. I was mesmerized.
It wasn't until last year, though, when I picked up a Mermaid magazine featuring Hannah Mermaid that I realized I could BE a mermaid, and that I need to be a mermaid. So, I started researching and obsessing. I've concluded that a) I want to make my own tail; yes, expensive, yes, hard, but I've always been a DIY type of girl (last year for the local faerie fest I made a mermaid costume that featured a hand-made leather scale bra - I also have other costume hobbies [MANDO MERCS ANYONE?!]); and B) I want to do it Hannah Mermaid style with hand-sewn sequins. I thought that I would want to do a silicone one, but the sparkling scales add such a level of realism. I'm all about realism. So magic. Very wow.
For me, being a mermaid is about fulfilling a childhood dream of acting, modeling, and being a mythical creature all in one, but it's also about being able to share that memorable experience with others. :) The idea warms my heart!
I can't wait to start getting involved, and, most of all, working on my tail! I'm eager to utilize the tools available to me here and working on my mermaid persona. I'm so happy that I found this forum! :D
