So what would it take to put on a Mermaid Convention?

I'm curious as to what it would entail to put on a mermaid convention.
You would need to get a venue with swimming opportunities. Vendors to bring people in and help with the cash expense. Possibly celebrities or speakers to also draw people in.
I would love to have something happen here in the Gulf Coast area of Texas but I'm afraid in order for that to happen, I will have to get this thing started myself. And I realize it may be much more that I can handle, but I'm still curious to see if this could maybe happen.

I've been involved in to coordination of the International Music and Media Conference, New Music Seminar, American Film Institute Conference, Real Estate Media Conferences (HUNDREDS of those). It's really not something you can just toss together. The folks that put together NC Merfest can probably give more targeted information.

I've also been looking into throwing a mermaid convention down here in Texas. I'm currently talking to my local aquatic center about hosting it ( my first meeting with them in tomorrow). I'm in Midland ( Permian Basin/Odessa). If it falls through with them I'd be happy to help you out.

I've been considering reviving one in Florida, as I have many friends in the con scene who know how to run and create conventions. However, I don't have the funds nor the patience for that kind of thing. I like going to cons. I don't think I can run one.

This is just a suggestion but there is a person that has put on 2 Merfests here in Cary NC. His name is Christopher Chandler or Christopher Starfish on Face Book. I have been to one of the merfests but missed the 2nd. He would be a good person or fish to talk to about setting something up or he can point you in the right direction.
