HELP! Need set ideas for a fair!

So my local fair has asked me to come back as an attraction this year, but I want a new set. last year a stock tank was donated for the day for me to sit in, but it wasnt very deep and was treated like a babysitting service because I was really low to the ground and didnt have any room to perform. So I need new ideas for a set.

We thought about doing a dunk tank which would be fun but brings up concerns about damaging my monofin. However something like that would be nicce because I do this as volunteer work and make tips only (So something people have to pay to interact with is a plus) I do not have access to a tank. Any deas would be awesome!

Maybe get one of those inflatable pools? (the blue ones) Hang some netting over the sides, and make some of those fake wooden pilings to go around the pool and "hide" the blue color of it and create a spot to sit on when you get tired of swimming in the pool outside of the pool.(if that makes any sense) I can't think of how you can add the pay to interact part with this though. Maybe leave a treasure chest near by for tips?

Hmm I agree a pool would be nice, as far as paying for interaction i charge people $3.00 a photo at events and they get a Polaroid snap shot and I collect tips for my costume guests. Also having autographed photos or treasures for sale help too.

Yeah I know but the camera is $80 right? Cant afford that especially with how small our fair is (thus the volunteer part)

And what kind of photos do you autograph? Like pre printed ones or the polaroids they take with you?

Mine was only $60.00 and I think they've gone down like I said just an idea ^.^ Making crafts to sell works good.

Oh i don't sell the autographs, but my costume guest bring in portraits of themselves in an awesome pose and signit for the kids. They sell them at other events for like $5-$10 depending on the crowd.

don't buy a Polaroid, everyone has a camera phone these days. Just charge to have people take their picture with the mermaid. The Naked Cowboy in New York takes tips to be photographed with him, you can certainly charge to have a photograph taken with you. Or have a big obvious tip jar right there for donations for photos. Use the Mall Santa concept as your marketing model. Also, if you do face painting, you can certainly sit there in your tail and do that.

Can you make small crafts? like necklaces from small shells? If you can, maybe you can have a sign that says $5 (or so) for a gift from the mermaid.

Anyone have a good idea of where to get a pool? the ones from walmart/target are either too small (10' x 2' deep) Or too expensive and too big

Inflatable pool idea was vetoed -__- Right now we're looking at renting a dunk tank an just using that as a normal tank (taking the grate off) if it's big enough. If it's not, well, idk.

I'm not totally sure, But on the picture when someone asked if it was a dunk tank she said it was actually a free standing dive tank. She also said that it belonged to the festival and not her. So maybe you could ask the festival owners/coordinators what kind of tank the have?

UPDATE: Fair is tomorrow!!

The board rented us a dunk tank (we will be using it for swimming only, theyre going to use it for dunking when we are done), Gem Stone is currently en-route to my house to join me at the fair, we have all the materials for pirate and mermaid makeovers, we are painting shells I drilled tonight to sell necklaces and bracelets (the pendants will be "found" from the bottom of the tank in the color they want, and we had a full article in the fair issue of our newspaper with a photo, we are on the website, and in the booklet and all the schedules. We are the main event at the kids zone! IM SOOOOO EXCITED

I was going to suggest you do something like the old carnivals did. Put up a curtain or something and charge or ask for tips to see the mermaid (and take pics of course) But it sounds like you have a great plan. Can't wait to hear how it went!
