Merman in Detroit

Hey merfolks! My name's Adam and I just wanted to go ahead and introduce myself. I'm a merman by sea...or lake and a bit fuzzier on the land living in the Detroit area. I think I've really lived meds since watching Splash way too many times on cable when I was a kid. I've always lived in the Great Lakes region and loved fish and the water, I even did a special science class in high school on marine biology. Though, I ultimately ended up as an automotive engineer.

I've been in the furry community for quite some time and was reminded of my mer side when I saw the recent coverage of the con last month and some of my friends mentioning mermaiding. I'm big into the costuming side of furry, I have several fursuits and have made couple, including a pair or satyr legs and I'm currently working on a new set. I've done some cosplay stuff too. I consider myself a Maker and design and 3D print parts for costumes and other projects. The costuming side of this fandom is what's really attracting me possibly getting more involved. I really love the idea of transforming yourself into something different.

I'm definitely interested in making my own silicone tail, but that's a bit of a long term goal. Right now I'm mostly looking to get into a swimmable fabric tail. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I have one of the cheap zentai style merfolk costumes I got years ago on eBay that's sat in a drawer for a long time because it's pretty much useless.

Well, I think that's good for now. I look forward to seeing what there is to see in this community, it definitely seem like a lot of fun!

Yeah, I probably could...I have a couple other projects I'm working on or are in the pipe line. I probably will before attempting something bigger. I've definitely been browsing through tail making info. I really do love making stuff for myself.

We went to Ann Arbor to see friends of the family :) So, we had to sadly go through Detroit and have our car ripped apart by boarder control -.- and I have to go through it every time we drive back to Toronto *le sigh*

You should be able to take 402 down to Sarnia and then 94 to 696 across. Though, it might not actually be much faster and it's more complicated. It's soooo much faster to get through the boarder though.

I am just to tempted to drive to Niagara Falls because they just laugh when they see the Texas plates and then ask what we're gonna be doing in Canada...even after they see on my US passport that I am CANADIAN...(I assume that that would give a good enough reason as to our coming into the country,) anyway, the usually say okay cool six month visa! So much easier.

Come to think of it, I do have one under Mintzbuck, but I don't really use it. Maybe I'll make it into more of a general costuming/fandom bent account. Seems like a lot of folks around here do that.

It is a bit overwhelming trying to find that first tail. There really don't seem to be too many places outwardly going for the merman demographic.
