So no matter how tight I pull the sides together (I still have to seam the other side) The back has this huge space. I put it up high, down low and even tried it out on my friend and there's always a huge gap. Worse when sitting down but still there while standing. How do you prevent this?

You can't really, it's just the way the tail fits. Even denim jeans can sometimes have that gap in them. The best you can do to hide it is wear a mermaid themed belt of some sort. I had to do it with my merbellas tail and I'm pretty sure nearly every silicone tail has that issue. It's just something you have to deal with and try your best to cover up.

Do you guys have pictures of your tails doing this? I've worn a silicone tail before (one that I didn't make) and it didn't gap so leads me to believe I've done something to make it gap like this...maybe because it's too thin? Poor seaming?

My tail isn't finished, it's going to be high waisted and it has a neoprene based and the neoprene doesn't gap too much, but there still is a small gap.

This is the mernation gap wrap...I don't know if it's something you want to look into or not.

most tails are made quite tight around the top, so when they are laying flat with no one in them the waist seems quite severe but it does help with the gap situation. But honestly you're probably going to get a gap of some description regardless. Probably explains why most of the time when mers have their tails on they are reclining in their photos - make your tummy look good and hides the gap

the only real cure is to have it super tight which can make it hard to pull up over your butt. But it can be done. My new tail is super tight and doesnt do this, but it's hard to get up over my butt haha

Never have I been so grateful to have a small butt.

Mahi, as others have said, this gap is kinda standard and the only way to get rid of it is to make your tail super tight. You can also cut have someone pinch that gap closed and pin it, and then you can cut out that V of silicone and seam it back up. That should take in the waist enough to pull it flat against you. (This will also give you some idea of how tough it will be to get in and out of the tail, since you'll have to wriggle out with the pins in!)

You would need to tailor it a bit more to your body, Like Lilly mentioned above, you can create a 'dart' (sewing term) to make it fit more to your body.

My tail actually has a sort of dart in the back. It was done before I got it but it does change the way the tail looks from the side. You can kind of see how it effects my silhouette in my profile picture

So now that I've completed seaming the tail, it no longer does that! At least not when I stand up, didn't check for when I sit down. Still working on some things, but looks like the tail fixed itself :) Mermaid Magic hehe

On another note, Kudos to Mernation for coming up with the Gap Wrap, that is ingenious!
