My first mermaid top! :)

So I've decided to make my first mermaid top, while I wait to be able to make my first tail! I decided to go with a traditional seashell bra, (even though I'm not sure what my mum will think, lol) and I found a perfectly sized pair of white shells. I've also got pearls, dimontes, little shells, seaweed etc, and am using a bra that has a broken strap as the base :) Here's a photo of the materials: ( minus seaweed and bra base)

I've been meaning to put that photo up in the last few days, so now I'm up to the next stage! :) I drilled holes into the shells with a pair of scissors ( carefully!) I thought it would be awkward if I asked my stepdad to drill them for me, as he could've figured out what I was making. >.< I decided to sew the shells before the seaweed/netting, so I knew where to put seaweed and not have to work around weedy bits while sewing on shells. I've used beading fishing line, so those shells aren't going anywhere! sorry for the terrible photo quality. I took the photo with zero light, but the flash:

now, I've sewn on the netting, and just over half of the seaweed. I was so wrong thinking that I'd get this done quickly x.x at least I'm almost ready for sparkles!!

I've finally finished the seaweed! I'm using a sacrificial shoelace to make the halter neck strap, covered with fishing net. now to start on the neck strap!

awesome to see some people are interested :D I'll get onto it as soon as school is over this afternoon :)

I super-glued some flat pearl beads on the shells, with some dimantes, and I sewed three large pearl beads on randomly. I still have some final touches to add, like something in the middle part between the shells. :)

thankyou! this whole thing took 4.5-5.5 hours in total, but it turned out nicely I think! :)

I also had a smaller shell like the one I put in the middle part, so I've drilled a hole into that too and "sparkle-ified" it to make into a necklace :)

Merlissa- You're already a beautiful mermaid, even without a shell bra! also, what about silicone seashells? or plastic ones? I'm sure they'd last much longer than real shells too :) in turn- I kinda envy your tails! They're so stunning :D especially the lantern one :rollover:

Update on this thread! So I still haven't worn my top outside of my bedroom (haha) as I want to wear it with my tail the first time I swim in it :D I kept thinking the top by itself didn't offer enough coverage, so I was playing around with ideas for a bit.... And remembered a cute macrame-style bikini top I used to swim in ALL THE TIME. that was a few years ago, and *ahem* my 'ladies' have grown a bit since then, so I can't wear the bikini top by itself anymore, but I thought it would work perfectly underneath the shell bra! The halter-neck of the bikini ensures that nothing is gonna fall out haha! And I think it looks perfect now (not to mention pretty) :D

Thanks guys :-) Jaffa- do you mean the bikini top? If so, probably not. It matches the white on the shells- plus I chose to have white as the main colour for the top, because I can wear it with any colour tail I may have in the future :-)

I do however have black fabric paint that I could use, and if I decide that the white is too much, I could make it match the fishnet :-) I am happy with the look now though. Thanks again guys x
