The Winter Blues Thread

Search didn't bring up something like this, so here it is.
For everyone who needs it.
I'll start.

We've had snows for months.
Almost a metre high.
It melted a bit the last 3 days, and today...blizzard, big snowstorm.

It's snowing right now, like, in a fairy story.
The woods are enchanted, all white crystal. So are the lakes.
I could go iceskating if I wanted.

In short, I'd absolutely love it...
IF I had a nice, warm, swimmable indoor pool (or even outdoor thermal pool).

I can drive to one when the roads are cleared for once, but I'm not sure it's a good idea.
The folks here are very generous and like to distribute whatever they have, especially if it's germs.
If someone feels a flue coming on, they'll go to the nearest public pool asap and sit there, coughing, wheezing, sneezing, and spitting.
Yep.

And with that dangerous strain of the flu going around...I think I might be stuck on dry, wintry land for several weeks :(

ugh yeah. really my favorite season is fall but im really in the mood for relaxing nap in bed on a warm summer day with the wind blowing down my back. witch im glad to hear that there is a word for that. in that case i love siestas! we only had 1 day where it was 60 degrees (Fahrenheit) actually im writiing this at this time because we have a two hour delay due to the snow

Such a different view point of snow in a place where I'm assuming it snows fairly regularly in the winter.
I'm in Dallas, Texas and we're getting 1/4in of snow/sleet/ice right now and the entire city shut down!
no school or work for most people. I'm a nurse so I go to work no matter what the weather is.
And it'll all be gone in a few days and be back to 70 degree weather like it was for the last few weeks.

You're too lucky Enora, Lol. Here in Michigan its been 10 degrees F or below, all the way down to -25 with the windchill. Plus all the stupid snow, a few inches every day at least. Here it's normal to not see the actual pavement on the road all winter. UGH :gah: I'm ready for summer.

how do you live?! DC has a tempered climate so we can get really cold winters and really hot summers. we dont NORMALLY go below teens or above 90
DC always get snow every year but we act like its the first time. i hate when northerners mock us for freaking out. we freak because DC has one of the worst traffic, alot of military, diplomat, or regular families move here so they might not be use to driving in the snow.

Lol we just bundle up. The other day it got all the way up to 30 degrees outside in the middle of the day and we were all ready to go to the beach in our shorts, lol. We're just used to it though. But let me tell you, if it ever gets above 75 degrees i wanna sit in the freezer. lol

Polar Bear Plunge!!!

Come to Australia for a holiday! The local pools are open during winter.

I have depression and seasonal depression on top of that. But I also love my sun lamp like there's no tomorrow. I am also a 'plant' person, I love all the growing outdoors things. So I might buy some flowering branches to force indoors, which is a thing I loved to do where I used to live.

I know I heard! :( I am so sorry to hear that. I hope that y'all are keeping your spirits up. Praying for you guys. I had understood it was really hard to be seen by a doctor by where you live (just an idea I have from talking to a Canadian friend, I don't know much about it). Sounds like that was not the case. I live in Victoria, Australia and where I am the weather is absolutely miserable because of Winter. Cold, rainy, muddy, wet and almost no sun. The days are shorter and it's almost totally dark by 4 or 5:00. I've been getting back into the bad routine of talking to my boyfriend on Messenger and Skype until the early hours of the morning. He was living with me for six months then had to go back home to Busselton, Western Australia. So I wake up in the afternoon with only a few hours of daylight then feel depressed because I've done nothing and because I miss him so much. It's too cold and miserable to go outside. I've been counting the days this has happened since he left. v.v Depression is already an issue for me... So I just work on my mermaid tail every day.

Winter is the busiest time here in (indoor) pools!
It's so crowded you can hardly move.

Summer, when it's really hot (never lasts longer than a few days/weeks at best in Germany),
indoor pools are nice because everyone is at the outdoor pool, kicking each other in the nuts, hitting each other over the heads, etc, in a pool where you cannot see the water anymore.

I dread winter as that's the time I can't go anywhere without having involuntary skin contact with hundreds of peeps :cry:


Maybe I should move to Australia after all.
(I've wanted to for a very long time, but the cruel quarantine for my little ones is a no-no)

I'm not able to drive just yet, so I can't get myself to the pool (haven't done any of the tests, but I'm definitely old enough) and I'm normally too busy with other things to go to the town pool. I really love swimming at the pool, but it always feels so awkward being looked at by the pool staff- and I've only used my monofin so far :/ (I can't imagine how weird it'll be with a tail!) guess I can only try, especially now that I've spent so much time on it :) still freezing every other time, though

They'll only glance at you every now and then, just to make sure you haven't sunk to the bottom of the pool lifeless. They won't openly stare if that's what you mean. They might stare if you put on a tail for the first time, prob cos they want to see how it goes on and how it works in the water but after that, its just occasional looks.
