Casting Call! Need Mermaid/Merman Extras!

Hey, Texas mers!! Lunette, Eve, and I will be making a mermaid magical girl YouTube series (inspired by, but not based upon Sailor Moon), and we need mermaids and mermen to appear in the very first episode!

Your name and tailmaker will be featured in the credits of that episode! We may ask a few of you to wear sclera contact lenses, but only those of you who are medically able and willing to do so.

We want mers of ALL types, so if you have a tail, this casting call is for YOU!

Filming will hopefully begin anywhere between late 2015 and early 2016, but we need a headcount now of those willing to participate! Feel free to invite friends with tails to participate and spread the word! We'd like a good number of people because you'll be representing the underwater kingdom of mers!

Mermaid Pickles, you can record your own audition if you like! You don't really need one to be an extra, though. Only if you would like to audition for a bigger role! For filming, everyone who volunteers to be an extra will be requested to meet us on location, definitely somewhere in Texas. Suggestions are welcome. Large pools, lakes, or any beach location is what we neef. Preferably, where the water is clear. If you want to suggest a location near you, you are more than welcome to do so. We are already prepared to travel for filming. Right now, everything is still a work in progress so we're trying to get a headcount to help us prepare and iron out the details.

Extras will basically be their normal beautiful merselves until the villain turns the city against itself. Then, you'll either act like an evil mer (chasing, growling, etc) or you'll be frightened and trying to get away. :)

We were actually planning Austin!! We've got access to a recording studio in Austin and a very sweet mer has offered her help to be a part of production there! :)

It's out west past midland Odessa area. It's a natural sink hole that has fresh clear spring water in it. It's open for swimming I'm planning on taking my tail there this summer sometime. It's quite cold but so pretty!

ALso, Zilker Park in Austin out near Westlake has a nice trail and spots you can climb. There's a nice little mini-cliff that's really fun, but you have to have good balance...It's a lot of fun, just watch out for poison ivy. There are huge rock you can just. It's been my favorite park to go to since I was twelve.

By summer I should have a tail, practiced swimming and should be halfway decent, I am no model by a long shot, But I am working out to tone myself and get into better shape. But this sounds like fun it would all depend on when this actually takes place. I don't live in Texas but I could fly down for a weekend +/- depending on the time it would take.. I will have to make sure I have a really cool looking Silicone tail to swim around in..

I also have black sclera lenses, though they aren't perscription so someone will just have to make sure I don't swim into any walls. I also have several pairs of colored circle lenses (purple, green, blue, black, brown, orange, silver, and red)

I don't have contacts, but the vast majority of my makeup is either really water-resistant, or waterproof, as in the stuff synchronized swimming teams use. The eyeliner is awesome, really hard to get off without remover once you put it on. It's what I use for cosplay.

That's awesome!! You're welcome to bring your own makeup! As of right now, we have a makeup artist, but our number's grown so I dunno if he'll have enough for everyone. But I'm sure not all mers will want to have their makeup done anyway. It's whatever works best for you! :)

I've seen them mentioned in other threads. They seem to stay in, but anytime you wear sclera lenses, you have to take them out after a couple of hours to give your eyes a break. They can be uncomfortable if you're not used to them because they're so huge. :)

Haha Me, too! I've always loved shows like Sailor Moon and writing fantasy stories, and always wanted to act and have fun on camera, especially if it's in a silly adorable Magical Girl style show like this one. But it wasn't until recently that all of the elements just kind of presented themselves at the same time and I was all like, "Why not!? Let's do this!" Haha I can't wait to work with you! Ihave a few wigs if someone wants to borrow one! Please no swimming in them, they're wavy/curly, and a pain to brush out. XD I have a short one, though, and if someone wants to, they can use that on for swimming in. It is green, and has scales/sequins sewn into a part of it that match the ones on my tail.

I first watched Sailor Moon at just the right age for it to forever impact my imagination. I don't think I'm ever NOT going to want to be Sailor Jupiter, you know? When Sailor Moon Crystal came out I binge watched all the episodes with the friend I've known since 1st grade. In fact, we became friends because I had Sailor Moon folders and she had a Sailor Moon lunch box. :sweat drop:

I'm definitely going to do something similar if possible at the end of each episode. I think it's a great way to encourage and inspire young ladies! (And some young men, too)! I have a purple black wig and a seaweed green wig we can use. And dreadlocks ( the set is a mix of blonde, dirty blonde, brown, and black) if anyone is willing to sit for and let me braid them in...

We're going to start the scene with shots of you swimming from above around the city before the villain shows up. Then, we'll have about half of you turn evil. We'll get a shot of just the evil mers trying to break into the "palace" (which will be added later in editing if all goes according to plan, otherwise we'll make a prop wall for it), then finally we'll get a shot of the evil and normal mers running around and finally, just the evil mers will remain because the rest will have disappeared. :)

Idk if you've done any research on Austin since you've planned on filming there, but you should definitely film in the Hamilton pool. I've never been there, bit it looks beautiful! Also, the Barton Springs pool is really nice. I've been there. The water is always cold though, even on hot days. It's difficult to explain without showing a picture, but there's a shallow place on the other side of this "damn" that I guess separates Barton Springs from the rest of the river? I remember sitting in that shallow, rocky area next to this tree that had white petals coming off of its branches and they "rained" into the water below- it was so beautiful! There are also flat rocks here and there jutting up in the water. Plus I think you can see big buildings around you to give a city-like environment. (Sorry that my information is so vague; I went over a year ago and I'm not a very observant person in general lol).
I'd love to do something like that only I don't have a tail and I'd have to get permission from my parents and I wouldn't have a clue of how that would go down. :P

The issue with Hamilton is that there is a cap on the number of people let in, making it hard to plan large events like this. All you can do is get there & hope you're among the lucky few. That was why we scrubbed it from the pod meet-up last summer.

Aww. I didn't think of that, although that's not surprising. They do have a ton of rules, and life guards watch like vultures over dead animals. Where I went didn't have life gaurds though and there was a dam separating us from the pool. We didn't pay admission, so it must've been right next to it.

Speaking of which, UPDATE!!!

We're going to have our camcorder ready by then for sure! I'm going to have it by Christmas thanks to my very sweet and supportive parents offering to get it for me then! So I'm incredibly excited that we don't have to rely on a fundraiser as of yet. We will still be shooting on location in Austin, TX for the underwater shots and we're going to try to get as many scenes done as possible. The castle will likely just be added via CGI later when I get a subscription to Maya or some other program for a bit. It would honestly be a thousand times easier than trying to lug pieces of scenery to and from Austin and have to fish them out of a swimming hole. (It also eliminates the possibility of accidental littering)! We're going to be as eco-friendly as humanly possible during the entirety of this project, fyi. Try to make sure that whatever you're wearing to the shoot is secure enough that you won't lose it! :)

We've nearly finished writing the first season and we have at least 30-40 more actors and actresses signed on for filming! We also have several potential costumers and even one or two armorers! It's amazing how quickly it's all coming together!

***We will be filming promos this summer and stock footage to use for our Prologue episode - both of which will take place at the Lone Star Mer Meet in Austin this July 15th-17th! If you can be there, that would be perfect! We will still require mers for future scenes, however!

Here's some more info for you guys. Please, feel free to share with friends and family on social media! :)

We aim to begin filming next year after crowd funding at least the first season. Primarily, our shoots will take place throughout the DFW and Austin areas.

Auditions are not necessary for those looking solely to be extras or behind the scenes crew members, but resumes and headshots are highly appreciated. No experience necessary.

For larger roles, message me that you are interested in a role with lines and more screen time. We will contact you closer to filming to request auditions and hold interviews. Resumes are appreciated, but not required.

There will be a cut in the budget set aside for actors who show up to shoots that will vary depending on screen time and number of lines spoken.

We still need more costumers and SFX artists. The majority of our budget will be dedicated to these fields. We have already contacted the incredible Organic Armor and hope to soon have the honor of working with them for a great deal of the main armor for the series. We also have a chainmail worker and a few armored individuals and at least one or two SFX artists on call.

Our director, James Blanco will be meeting with us for filming and we are always looking for additional camera men on call as backups - specifically around the DFW area. Photographers are welcome to take set photos and share in the fun.

Plot Summary:
Three young women discover that they are the lost descendants of a dying race of mer-people. Thrust into another world whose inhabitants are slowly being overwhelmed by a mysterious force, they must learn to hone their new abilities and work together to defeat a looming threat.
