Lots of already made tiaras and a listing for custom ones!
Hi there! Riiarin encouraged me to post pics of these here, and just wanted to ask if you guys are interested? :) I've only sold these here in Finland so I don't have any clue of how shipping things works but I think it pretty solvable thing... :D These are made from silver filled wire, aluminium and platinum, so they are pretty soft so you can easily push them on your head and mold them but I also hammer them a bit to harden them so that they'll keep their form. Here is few pics;

That green one is gorgeous! I love it! How much do you think you would be asking for them? Can you swim in them with out them rusting?

02-28-2015, 07:32 AM
Hi, lovely to hear, thank you guys! <3 I'd be asking maybe something around 50 euros, it takes quite a long time to make one. The green one is custom made for a friend, she asked a fairy or woodland elf -like one, and she was sooo happy for the result! It was wonderful. I unfortunately haven't yet tested them in chlorinated water cause I've two times forgotten to take them with me in the swimmig hall ( :D ), but I have immersed them in normal tap water and let them dry and they were as good as new :) I take on of them with me, finally, in swimming hall next week and I'll let it be in water for at least one hour, then I'll be wiser with this question :)

I consulted one of our diving instructors who works also with chemistry quite a lot and asked what happens to these materials in chlorine. He said that if you forget these things laying on the bottom of the pool for days they're absolutely going to suffer as almost any other material, but aluminium is very good material to use with these jewelry things cause it is durable material and you can easily rinse it with winegar or any other acid including liquids and it neutralizes the effects, but it is enough just to rinse it troughly after every swim, and just every now and then rinse it with winegar :) BUT I'm really not going to say anything permanent before I have tested these in chlorine water myself :)

Also I can tell you that this wasn't just something which I started to do right away, I've been learning how to do these things for a while now, and I've been getting familiar with these materials and bending them etc. So even though I haven't yet been selling these I'm not a complete beginner :D That's also one thing why the price is what it is, cause yes, materials cost smthn but also materials which I've been using to learn to do these were some kind of an investment. But the reaction of you all is so precious! It's so wonderful to hear that you think these are beautiful... :)
But yeah, here is just smthn I've been doing, sorry for the messy pic, again... :D

Well I accidentally removed the whole message... So, I've been just pushing circlet against my head and they kinda mold themselves to stay, also I've used few poppy pins. Then on the other hand I do the spirals on the ends of the circlet in that way that it's possible to bend them inside your hair, but when putting on for example a hairdo you have to do it once cause other wise it messes the hair do if you have to remove it again and again cause the spirals attaches so well. I've tried all kins of hair clip and hair bound -thingies but they've been looking kinda.. uhm, well, stupid :D At least how I've been trying to do them.

Oh, these are gorgeous! How much do they weigh? (I have fine hair and a sensitive scalp so if I wear heavy pieces for too long, my hair snaps/gets pulled out and my head hurts.)

02-28-2015, 02:17 PM
I saw your reply and they look so amazing when you wear them!
I just want to wait a bit because I want to purchase a full silicone tail and I have so many designs!
I would like the circlet to match with the design I'll choose.
Anyway I'll follow this thread in the meanwhile to see what you create.
Do you have an etsy shop to look at now that you sell them?
Merenneito Nerissa
02-28-2015, 03:00 PM
They are really light as a feather :D That's also why I like this material :) So you don't have to worry these things hurting your sensitive scalp or anything :)
I don't have an etsy shop, I thought that I might sell them just through here or facebook. I considered to make these so that I first take an order and a design and color wishes, then I make the circlet and when one's happy for the result she/he sends me money and I put a circlet in mail :) Do you guys think this is a good plan to do it?

Thank you all! <3
Designing process went like this with the first "client"; She told me she'd like to have a woodland elf-based tiara. Then she told me the colors, and asked if I could use same kinda plastic plants on it which I've been using with my mermaid accessories. Then of the whole form design she sent me few pics from internet which created a basic idea of the design. Then first when I bended the base I sent her pics and she accepted it and then I sent pics of the beads which I was going to use. And when it was ready she got the final pic and was more than happy :) Here's a pic she had taken few days ago with her tiara, got it straight from her facebook and sorry of the foggyness and everything;

Ummm I'm so newbie in these things that I've no idea what's a payment plan :DDD Can you explain it to me? :)
Well I'll definately do matching sets with the tiaras! That's an awesome idea! I've been practising with all these wire thingies I posted a pic of there earlier, and I've considered to making these bracelets too, earrings I already have made a lot. Necklaces aren't my strongest area cause I always end up doing too much, when I think simple is most beautiful with necklaces. Also chains are very expensive and I just don't want to use jewel string cause I think it looks lame

Ummm I'm so newbie in these things that I've no idea what's a payment plan :DDD Can you explain it to me? :)
Payment plan basically means instead of paying one lump sum they pay little bits at a time, say 5 payments of $10 instead of $50. Sometimes people charge more for payment plans but it's an individual thing.

It's pretty hefty. $0.20 USD to list an item, plus 3.5% of the sale price. Also an additional 3% (if I remember right) when they use direct checkout.
Also, I would totally adore a matching set with like a forearm bracer!

From one wire wrapper to another, these are lovely!! What kind of wire do you use?
Mermaidmechanic
03-03-2015, 05:58 PM
Wow, thats pretty legit! ^_^ You made that really fast too! Have you set up a facebook page for your wire-wrapping yet, or are you still working on it? (Thats what you decided on right? Since Etsy kinda kills with its fees and all)
Merenneito Nerissa
03-04-2015, 01:59 AM
Sherielle, I use aluminium for the main wrappings and platinum for some small parts, so these are also nickel-free too.
MermaidMechanic, I'm still kinda thinking of how to do it for the best way, in facebook I mean. I already have my own page, www.facebook.com/merenneitonerissa and thought that I might use that? There already is pics of some of my handicraft. Or should I make completely new page? What do you guys think?
Merenneito Nerissa
03-04-2015, 02:02 AM
And I thought that I might offer two kinds of designs, the basic, which would be those earlier ones and then this bigger more complicated one, since it took more time and so much beads :D
Merenneito Nerissa
03-04-2015, 02:44 AM
But I'm trying to figure this out as fast as I can cause we're going to see Cirque du Soleil's Quidam in two weeks to Helsinki, which is our capital and I'm going to get crazyyy in this huge crafting shop!!! As you can imagine it's pretty limited here in Lapland when it comes to crafting shops :D And it's always tricky to order online cause I wanna know how the beads and wire and everything feels so I know better what I'm doing :D There's no problem to order from the internet when I know what I'm ordering. But you know, it'd be perfect to have few orders and then just go to shopping to this huge store and just ummm... how do I say this... Having a pic in your mind and then finding even more wonderful beads and other stuff it just makes you so satisfied, then it's even more fun to create these things! :) And when seeing someone else loving the effort you have took and things you've done, woww, the best feeling ever!
Mermaid_Syrenity<3
03-04-2015, 02:56 AM
I get what you're saying, I make jewelry as a hobby and before creating the necklace or bracelet I would usually come up with a design of how I see it in my head when going to buy the beads needed.
Sherielle
03-04-2015, 09:24 AM
I've bought small amounts online from jewelry supply websites as a test and if I like it, I buy more. I'm picky with my wire, though I'm probably going to go to mainly sterling silver wire since craft wire doesn't seem to last after a few years.
Mermaid_Syrenity<3
03-04-2015, 10:24 AM
So do I but I usually just use like the plastic wire. Also i usually can't get many beads because of budget, but sometimes you make the best stuff out of what you got.
Merenneito Nerissa
03-04-2015, 10:33 AM
Yeah, sterling also allures me a lot, but it's so expensive that I really need to be so confirmed with my skills that I don't waste wire at all. Also there's one thing which only aluminium makes possible; it's soft enough that you can push it on your head and that's why it fits to everyone :D But I also absolutely adore sterling, so that is definately going to be a step I'm going to take some day, but I'm not gonna give up aluminium either :)
Mermaid_Syrenity<3
03-04-2015, 10:37 AM
And that is awesome for you, never quit no matter what you can always try and expand your skill
Sherielle
03-04-2015, 11:22 AM
I'm going to have to try aluminum!

03-05-2015, 02:47 AM
Kishiko, absolutely! :)
But there's only this one but at the moment... Mainly because this is Finland and the folks who are making the laws are very weird people :D Ok, cause I'm starting a new business and made myself this company name which I registered. Then now I'm trying to get this support money from our government which is allowed to any starting business which has a clear image and possibility to success. Well, if there's any kind of activity with your business before they've made this decision of wether you're not going to get it, you're not gonna get it. I mean... It's a business supporting money but if you're already having some business action you won't get anything... Omg this is just omg... :DD
So now I'm filling few forms and then just going to sit and wait :D But I can definately take orders and start the making process, but I just can't ship it or take the money before I'll have this decision.
Merenneito Nerissa
03-05-2015, 02:48 AM
And Sherielle, please do! Aluminium is cheaper than sterling or copper, and it's actually also very good for practising designs and things you think might work, and then just repeat them with more expensive materials :)

Merenneito Nerissa
03-05-2015, 05:01 PM
Celeste, I haven't worked with copper so I cannot promise anything yet but that is one material which I'm going to learn how to use, then I'll absolutely use that in tiara's too! Are you interested of the color or the exact material? Cause I also have this diamond cut golden (color) aluminium wire, that one I haven't tested yet, cause I'd like to do smthn special with that or just staright an order. There's also other color possibilites with aluminium wire too, like turquoise, green and red :) I'm going to by one roll of the turquoise one tomorrow and take it with me to swimming hall, so I'll know how colors react to cholrine ( and yeah, tomorrow finally take the circlets there too, didn't have the opportunity at tuesday as I was suppose to... :D )

03-06-2015, 11:06 PM
Do they hold up well under water or are they for dry events only?
Merenneito Nerissa
03-07-2015, 03:41 AM
Well now I can happily tell you that I tested one tiara yesterday at the swimming hall, it was laying on the bottom when we had our underwater rugby team's practice turn, so it was there like 1,5 hours. Then I didn't purposely even rinse it afterwards, so that I can more clearly see if smthn happens, and you guys, nothing! Or well no, not nothing, there was a small mark on one spot which have taken some dark color but I swiped it gently with sand paper and got it easily off. And this was when I left it to dry without rinsing. I also did the same thing for the golden one and color is exactly how it was before :)
So yes, my tiaras are for underwater use also! :) And they are very light but they doesn't float either.
Merenneito Nerissa
03-07-2015, 03:43 AM
I'll take this one tiara which I took with me yesterday also to our future swim turns so I'll know how it reacts if using it many times on a row, and I don't rinse chlorine off so the effects are more visible
Merenneito Nerissa
03-07-2015, 04:03 AM
So here are before and after pics, and please don't mind of the sloppy work, this was the very first tiara I ever made :D And the spot there actually was a bit damaged before already, I think I've maybe accidentally pushed it too hard with tweezers. But that's why I've made all these test circlets so I'd learn from mistakes I've made :)
So here is that dark mark right next to the stone, it was even a bit darker but camera didn't capture it properly
27997
And here it is after I used some sand paper, it was very rough sand paper and I don't have smoother at the moment so it looks quite jagged. But as you can see, it's still as silvery it was before :)

I have used only poppy pins and they stay very well. Only thing which concerns me a bit is those swirls, I think they'll cling a bit around one's hair while swimming, but then again it might be a good thing also, permanent stay :D But f.ex. good hairdo's and braiding are the best base for attaching the tiaras, and doing those as the base will avoid clinging.
These are beautiful! I work a very small amount with wire, making jewelry and such. But I am not even as close to as talented as you are. I really want on of these. :)

YES! I got it!!! :D And 'm soooo happy. But my store is still under construction, but I can start to make tiaras right now! :) I still have to figure out all the amounts, but the basic design will be 50 euros, there'll be few add-on options with extra-price, like swarovskis, plastic leafs, etc. :)
Basic design would be max. six different sections of the wire, max. 3 different colored pearls and one big "middle-gemstone" with two gems on the side.

I feel bad derailing threads. No one else asked for this to happen, but we are selfishly discussing our stuff here, mucking up a perfectly good thread about gorgeous circlets. However, if you'd like, we can start a thread about the yellow dress and get every else's comments on it as well. See what everyone else thinks.

But I love this tiara so much I'm either A) ordering another one to match my renfair costume or B) making a new costume to match this one. I wore it for like four hours that night.

This one took some time to finish, but yesterday after I visited in a local jewelry fair and bought *just a bit* new beads and other stuff I just couldn't resist anymore and finished this. Frozen's Elsa has the most beautiful color scheme, I really love all her colors and the turquoise she wears is the exact turquoise I love. Of course also the fact that I live here in Lapland, in the land of northern lights and eternal winter( :D ) have gotten me really love all snowy and icy stuff.
So, here's my newest finished project, Circlet inspired by Frozen's Elsa;

It's so easy even my husband can do it! (I'm the handy one in the family, haha). He just used a cardboard box, cut out the sides and top, and covered the cutouts with tracing paper. Then I added a piece of white posterboard (like thin cardboard) for the background that curved along the back wall and the bottom of the box so it covered the back corner. That gives you a nice smooth white background without any crevices.
PearlieMae
04-29-2015, 12:36 PM
Instead of tracing paper, I use the bags from cereal. They are nice and translucent and very tough!
