Sewing sequins: stitch depth?

Hello I'm wondering about sewing sequins into neoprene. The sequins will be hand stitched one at a time but I believe I read somewhere not to pull the stitch all the way through the neoprene or else the tail won't last as long with thousands of tiny holes in it. Instead it was suggested to only go through the top layer so the the knot ties under the sequin instead of the underside of the material. What would you suggest? Any advice from mers with experience with sequin neoprene?

I've read somewhere to just go below the top fabric layer. .so if its 2mm neoprene then maybe 1mm max underneath.

I have a sequin tail with 5mm neoprene. I only sewed through the top 2mm of the neoprene and then tied off the sequin on the outside of the neoprene. Hope this makes sense and helps!

Nope only through the top half since I have really thick neoprene
no real reason except it was such thick neoprene

you can also just go through the fabric on the top of the neoprene.

I do have fabric on top of my neoprene but, I sewed through the fabric and half the neoprene because the fabric wasn't staying with the neoprene when I took it off me so the sequins held it all together.
