Hello! I'm new to mermaiding on land. Up to now, I've used tails to swim in only, but in May, I'll be joining in a mermaid promenade. I'll also be attending faires and festivals in tail with my handsome pirate handler. How do you get around events of this nature? Strong as my pirate is, I don't think he'll want both hands full of 150 pounds of mermaid + silicone tail. I was thinking of using a outdoor/yard flatbed cart... Any information helps! Thank you!!

I'm going to be making an appearance at a ren faire this weekend in a outdoor utility cart. Can't tell you about how comfortable that's going to be, though.

MermaidCelesteFL, would you mind letting me know what your experience is like? That's one of the ideas I was considering. Have fun!

You could always put wheels on a lounge chair. ;)

I've been towed on a wagon. You need a few pillows for comfort and water and sunscreen, otherwise it's ok. Your ankles get sore.

When I'm ready to retire my Fin Fun tail, I plan on using it to make a costume like this. The pirate legs are real, the mermaid's upper body is real, and everything else is fake. It looks so cool! And no need to worry about uneven ground, stairs or anything like that. You can just WALK!

Of course, it wouldn't work for events where you want to also sit down or swim, but it's still pretty cool!

How about a large wheelbarrow or wagon with a few cushions inside for comfort? You could always decorate it or spray paint in a different colour.

Such is the life a mermaid, no legs = no walking ;)

I bet you could do the same thing like the mermaid and pirate only with an octopus holding the mermaid up.

Tried using an Ames Polycart and that was a MISTAKE AND A HALF. I kept getting dumped, the plastic wheels were horrid on uneven terrain (think mulch or rock like most faires) and the bruising on my back was intense.

My recommendation and next step would be a larger capacity dump cart with either inflatable (like tires) or rubber wheels. Home Depot sells a 1200lb capacity gorilla cart that's basically a big wagon for $129. Pillows are a MUST and as was mentioned, sunscreen and possibly an umbrella. If anyone figures out an easier way to get around in a silicon tail, please tell me >~<

I've used a cart from Home Depot's parking lot for a Mermaid Parade, but that was on a fairly smooth road.

Hi 5 Mermaid Wesley, it looks totally cool and there is no one to pick you up or worry about brusing etc and you'll be nice and cool all day long, you may need an umbrella or a whole bottle of sunscreen though <3

I thought I'd Google and see if I could find DIY instructions. The first link I found was basically "ARGH! DON'T DO THIS YOU'LL DESTROY YOUR SUSPENSION AND POSSIBLY BREAK YOUR TAILGATE!!!!!!!!!!!1"

Boo. http://www.equipmentworld.com/no-swimming-why-turning-your-truck-bed-into-a-pool-is-a-terrible-idea-video/

Try it for yourself, 1 person is fine however I wouldn't recommend it for 4 people and if you read the article they said 'people' not person.

Also check to see how much weight your truck can hold. I'm sure 1 mer wouldn't weight that much...

Also line the bottom of the truck with some sealant to make sure that the water doesn't end up leaking out, I would always double line.

Its definitely doable.

I'm modifying a bicycle trailer (the kind kids sit in while the parent pedals) to be a mermaid stroller.

That sounds like a good idea with the truck but I was also considering the wheelchair idea myself and decorating it just for mermaids on dry land.
