I read a post regarding crowdfuding as being one of the options to fund for a tail.

What I am wondering is;

1. Is it okay to post a link of the mermaker's website on your campaign so donators know its not a scam
2. Advice from previous crowdfunding experience

My advice: Not really a great idea. I dont think any mers have ever succeeded with crowdfunding for a tail. Mers aren't likely to donate, we all are saving for ourselves. If you have a lot of people outside of the mer community that are liable to donate, go for it! i think it would be fine to post a link to the tailmaker's site.

Honestly? Literal crowd funding sounds like it could work. Like Wesley said, fellow mers don't have a lot of money to give, sad because we want to, but we are all trying to get tails, upgrades, tanks, accessories, always something to better ourselves.

But if you go to local pools, ask if you can bring a "Tip" jar, do tricks, and swim around and have fun, like a street performer, and people can contribute to your tip jar!
The same goes to if you swim in a lake or local swimming hole, just take a mermaid decorated tip jar. :)

It might not be much each time, but it all adds up, right?

I have an envelope with "Tail Savings" on it, and when I have extra ones or a 5, or just money that has kinda sat for a while, I throw in the envelope. :)

Just be careful with this, because in some municipalities this is considered panhandling and you can get fined. Where I live now, you can only busk in designated areas at certain times, and where I grew up you couldn't busk at all. A friend of mine in grade school nearly got a ticket for playing violin on the street corner- she only got off because she was underage.

Check with your municipality before putting down the hat, because you don't want any money you make going towards paying tickets! But, if it's legal where you are, go for it!

I crowdfunded most of the cost of my first fabric tail, my mertailor tail, and my first merbellas tail. BEFORE crowdfunding websites existed. But I was already a successful model and musician and asked my supporters of that for help. I had an established following and I think that's why it worked.

I've had a lot of issues trying to establish a crowdfunding campaign because I don't have friends on Facebook *embarrassing*

How do you go about handling crowdfunding platforms such as GoFundMe that has a verify policy that requires you to have a certain amount of friends on Facebook.

It seems to be fairly commonplace that you requires friends to crowdfund.

What happens to a legitimate person such as myself that doesn't have a network of friends to be 'verified'.

Is all this Facebook hype an advantage or disadvantage for most people?

I respect websites need to verify your identity surely there has to be some other means other than Facebook...

What is your experience or feedback like regarding crowfunding?

IMO it really depends on what you are crowdfunding, people can randomly search those sites for specific things but having friends who will share with their friends etc helps.
Look at the Reading Rainbow fund, that was incredible and for an incredible purpose. What is it that you are wanting help funding?

Aurora, I'm gonna be totally honest with you; if you want to buy a silicone tail, save the money yourself as most of us have. IMHO, crowd funding for a tail is obnoxious. It's a luxury item unless you're running a serious mermaid business. Many of us have had to save for a very long time for high end tails, some choose to make them themselves or go with a less expensive option right off the bat. I am personally fed up with seeing people start go fund me campaigns in general because of the behavior I see going on behind the scenes; people asking strangers to give them money for this or that while they contribute very little of their own money to it or they go around spending the money they should be saving on frivolous things. I'm not implying you would do this, I'm simply telling you that you may have trouble finding support in this endeavor cuz I'm not the only one that feels this way about crowd funding. Start saving, be patient, best of luck to you
