Howdy! I'm not sure why I never posted about my tail sooner. When I was 9 years old, I made this h2o-inspired tail. I had no idea how to sew (still don't), and I hardly knew anybody that knew how to either. For some reason (don't ask me why bcuz I have no idea), I never asked for a fabric tail online. My best guess is that I was too embarrassed for my family to know my love obsession for mermaids, which failed because it's always been impossible for me to mask that. So I thought about making a "dry" one out of paper.
It may look pretty crappy, but I'm pretty proud of it considering I was just a 4th grader. Hopefully the pictures will upload the way I want them to...

I stuffed more paper at the very bottom so that way I could take it out when I'd grow taller. Also, it only took an afternoon to make the tail, but painting it was a different story. I used gold glitter glue from WalMart, and I had to paint two layers on. Because of the glitter the texture is rough, which I prefer. 28627
The inside. 28628
This is the opposite side of the tail. Obviously I never finished painting it. I haven't gotten around to fixing the rip. I tried to see if I could fit into it last Halloween all these years later, and I barely fit into it. 28629
Further repairs for ripped paper near the bottom from earlier years. 28630
This is the side. I've moved 3 times since I made it, so I had to fold it up, which unfortunately caused conspicuous creases on the side. 28631
The fluke- The brown spot is a glob of glue that I accidentally dropped on it, and it dried. I planned on "upgrading" the fluke- using different materials on it to make it thicker, maybe adding a monofin instead, replacing it with posterboard, more paint, etc. As I said previously, I never finished it. I just wanted to have a fluke ASAP. 28632
I really wanted to be a mermaid for Halloween and pass out candy. I decided to use this tail instead of buying a fabric one. My bottom couldn't fit into it because I've (obviously) grown taller, plus I made a huge rip. On top of that, I needed to make sure that no one would see the underside. I ripped up an old, too-small-for-me witch costume and draped it over my lap to hide the imperfections. I really wish you guys could see the fabric in person; it's much more beautiful and shiny than in the picture!
I'll probably be cringing years from now at the fact that I wore that for Halloween last year, but I'm still proud of what I made! 2863428635
On another note, I'm thinking about being a tree spirit (dryad) next Halloween, but my mom really wants me to be a mermaid again. :thumbs up:
