Silicone over hologram spandex? Would it work?

This was an idea I had today. I really like the look of many hologram spandex tails, but they wear out quickly in the water. What if I were to 'paint' the inside and outside of a hologram tail with dragonskin silicone, either unpigmented or with interference pigments? I know that silicone will cure over nylon/spandex, as that is the content of the powermesh used to reinforce full silicone tails. Any idea as to whether anything in the hologram stickers would inhibit curing?
This isn't anything I have in the works, just an idea to throw out there. If it did work, it would be a beautiful, shiny tail for much cheaper than full silicone, and more durable than plain fabric.

I think that's the sort of thing that that VanLoot guy (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?10546-Richard-Van-Loot-tails) does with his tails (not sure exactly), and it looks SUPER pretty. I think it would be worth trying out, at least!

Having put silicone on fabric before, I'd suggest laying down an old shower curtain or plastic wrap first, so you don't get stuck to the table.
mix small amounts of silicone at a time, because there is the issue of the silicone going through the fabric. So do a thin layer (to cover up/fill the holes in the fabric), and then after that's cured add another layer and so on and so forth.

My initial tests worked really well, but then I decided to go for the full silicone tail. I'm still finishing up my daughter's tail, which is painted lycra with a simple layer of silicone on top. The silicone won't stick to the sequins (or paint) but it's fine with the lycra beneath. It has to seep through to stick well to the fabric. I would stretch it out just a little before putting the silicone on to enlarge the pores in the lycra and allow the silicone to seep through (though it doesn't un-stretch again when you do that). If the sequins get too big, PearlieMae found that sequins will tear through it. But she was using actual sequins, not the foil dots on lycra.

Oh, and lycra with foil dots is a bitch to sew by machine. Be sure to clean your needle often because the glue will gum it up. I think some folks might even use lube of some sort on the needle. I just hand sewed it. If your needle starts skipping stiches, I found that a layer of tear-away or soluble interfacing on top or underneath will help quite a lot.

That was me, but it could've been the fact my mold had not finished de-gassing. Honestly, we don't know. But vinyl is definitely not recommended.

I was thinking that the silicone could be applied after the tail is sewn and pulled onto a duct tape manniquin. That would ensure exact sizing and would lightly stretch the fabric for better absorbtion.

If you could get the silicone super clear like how PearlieMae does, It'd be really cool to use this on a Magictail tail. They're patterns are really cool, but the thin material is what kept me from buying from them. This would be a neat way to dramatically increase the durability of the tails!
