FinFun Mermaid Tails?

So before anyone gets after me I did search for threads about this tailmaker and didnt find the info I was looking for

That being said Im looking to get one of FinFun's tails for my very first tail and would really appreciate it if other FinFun owners would come talk to me about thier tails and if FinFun is good for a first tail. Also I am a somewhat heavier mer so Im wondering if I would be able to fit thier size M womens tail or would I have to get a custom one?

I don't own one of their tails but have tried on a few and I think they're a great first tail! Fabric is so much easier to deal with than silicone or even neoprene.

Bear in mind their monofins are okay for swimming, but they don't have as much propulsion as a Mahina or Finis fin (and also more fragile), but they're not very expensive and replaceable!

As far as sizing goes, I believe they have a size chart on their website, but you could always email them with your measurements if you're unsure.

Their Mermaidens collection is beautiful! I have the green tail and tankini set. When I wore it to the pool, the kids couldn't stop staring! Their tails are super but the monofins don't get me anywhere.

Ive tried my friends' finfun. The mono fin doesn't do much, but for a first tail or a more casual mer they're perfect!

Not much more to add to what they said here. It's a great starter tail, supposedly they have a new fin that's not a fragile though? OR so I heard. I have the Barracuda Black tail, and actually got mine custom-made, simply because for the extra I think it's worth it. As for sizing, I -believe- their medium is approximately a 12-14 dress size (and because I'm working on ninja-buying a friend a tail for her birthday, they said it fits up to a 38" hips...which is smaller than mine, only slightly). Personal opinion only: a custom really isn't that much more and it'll fit much better. However, if you contact them, their staff is incredibly nice and helpful.

I've used both the old and new "stronger" inserts, and really can't tell any difference between the two, except that the new one has edges that are really sharp, so you definitely need the tip protectors to keep it from wearing through the neoprene monofin cover. If you're on the shorter side, I would say go for the custom size. I'm really short and the women's small fits well, except it comes up higher on my waist than I prefer. If you're taller, the women's medium would probably work. Good luck finding your perfect tail- FinFun tails are so pretty!

A note about the custom sizing, they cut the elastic to your exact waist measurements. When mine came it fit gently on my waist when I was standing in my room dry, any wiggling would make it slide down my rear. Took it in two inches on each side and it fit dry but when wet it would start to slide. I ended up putting in my own waistband using a foot of elastic.
