My first tail!!!! it's FINALLY starting to happen

I am sooooo excited, i JUST ordered my fin!! thanks to my lovely merman.:swoon:
i have been wanting to make a tail for the past year, and this is the summer I've decided I'm going to make it happen!! so i planned and picked my color scheme and researched and i have everything all picked out its just about ordering. I've felt so let down thinking that it would never happen. now it feels like its actually going to happen! thanks to the love and support of my loved ones
so I'm creating a thread to document my progress and i can't wait to look back on it when its all said and done.
i would appreciate feed back and tips and tricks. I've got a pretty clear design in mind.

i just purchased the Finis Rapid mono fin and i will be modifying it.
neoprene will be my fabric base and I'm planning on using sequins on the majority of my tail, and painting the fluke
my colors are GOLD, AQUAMARINE and and a beautiful LIGHT BLUE color.
the fluke will have fringe and I'm contemplating some along the sides. we'll see.

i'll update as much as possible, and when something new and exciting happens.

i found my fluke colors!!! At an art store a ways from my house it's a drive but it's worth it! Still might get a darker color for shadowing and Contours. I was really excited when I found these because these are like the most recommended brand! Making it happen ;)

Be sure to thin out super sparkle, some of the lumiere paints are really thick and if you don't thin it they peel off when they dry. Just add a bit of water to a small amount of paint.

Have you been playing with the monofin a lot? When mine came in I was wearing it for a long time flapping it and lifting it up. :lol:

yes! haha i JUST got back from swimming in it. its not even ideally swimming weather really and the water was ice cold but i HAD to try it! it was surprisingly really comfortable to swim in and the movement felt natural. I'm sure all real mermaids feel that way ;] I'm so ready to trade in these legs!

Congrats on your swim! It is really fun isn't it?
I wasn't sure if I would struggle the first time I swam in my monofin, but you really just take to it quickly. I do need to work on speed and breath holding though. :p

It's been a while since I updated this! Haha I have a template and I'm hoping to have a swim able tail by today! I'm deciding on hand painting it or doing the sequins like I originally planned.

32386 okay it's done I'm still debating on sequins or just paint it. I might just paint it because it's not the neoprene that i wanted and the fabric store wouldn't let me return it so this is my practice tail! It fits like a glove! Can't wait to test it in the water

You could paint it, and then add sequins later if you felt like it. Congrats on having a functional tail!
