Goldfish fluke

I adore Ryukin goldfish and their tails. I know that the way they are is not conducive for a monofin but I was wondering if anyone has considered taking on this challenge?

It is basically two sides that are almost vertical, joined at the top, if that makes sense.
I would love a tail with this kind of fluke, but I am flummoxed at how to create it.

I think its beautiful and really hard. its similar to how people have tried to make betta tails. it hard to get that thin flowy look.

Yeah, many times. I've sketched out several and even started sculpting two but I don't want to make a tail so poorly suited to swimming.

Maybe using a shooter monofin? You would have a much shorter amount of fin and could make the fluke a bit thinner than usual to make it really "flowy."

Give me a few minutes to draw it out because I can't type it out without having a picture to explain how it could work. I've never tested this ideal, but in theory it should work, but you might want to bring the ideal up to an actual tailmaker.

Okay so how it would work is that you would have to have a slimline or custom monofin that only flares out a little from your feet to that way you have support and you can round of the bottom of the tail a little so it doesn't just drop off. The red indicates the Monofin. Once the monofin ends the silicone would have to be thin, pretty much just a little thinker then what the pectoral fins would be at. One way I thought would work and I believe Pearlie uses is to use a thin fabric to strengthen the thinned out silicone to allow it to have more flex then what it would normally have. Now if that actually works then you can go about the fluke two different ways, one is more work, but would strengthen it a little more.

The harder way would to be make two blue fins, one of the front and one for the back and then make two yellow fins. The two yellow fins would stick slightly between the two blue fins. this would bulk and strengthen up the Monofin part of the tail, meaning you could stand on it a little more without to much worry. This would allow it to have a little more abuse before breaking down.

The easier way would to simply make the yellow and blue fins together as a whole. This will make it thinner and have more flow, but it might not last very long or deal with heavy use, it would be more of a light swimming, dry land tail.

Now once again these are just ideals of how it would work and if it would work. Since I've never made a tail I'm not sure it the silicone would work in the way that I'm thinking it would, but in theory it should....Anyways I hope this helps a little, maybe someone that has made a tail before will see this and either test it out or say if it has been tested and wouldn't work. ^^

I've thought about doing this with fabric. Maybe create a solid orange tail with the monofin and add orange/white flowy "faux flukes" for aesthetic. There would be lots of drag though. :/

It is the same concept, however that's a very stiff fluke, it doesn't flex very much.

Meilyn's fluke is flat. The goldfish tail I'm thinking of is not. Not to say that I wouldn't take Meilyn's tail in a minute cause it's freaking gorgeous.

I've had designs for a double tail waiting for a few years just in case I ever try silicone. I was going to do a flat fluke, but try to mold the shape so that it flowed the way I wanted. Maybe it would be worth it to experiment with harder silicone instead of a monofin like Mike does. I feel like it's not the best design for strong swimming, anyway.

I hope someone manages to pull off a double tail like that ryukin eventually. It's lovely <3
