Professional Mermaid Salary?

I've just been thinking about this for a while and I'm curious: what's the average yearly mersalary for a professional mermaid? Is just mermaiding enough to support a lifestyle alone or is a second job necessary?

Just did my taxes and I made the same amount being a mermaid as I do as an ece. The only reason i picked up extra work is my partner is unemployed. But yup I pay all my bills this way

I think there's too much variation to accurately answer that question. Location, interest, weather, equipment, all that has to be factored in. Iirc Mermaid Linden said that even she has dry spells sometimes, when no one's making any mermaid bookings. Plus, you have to look at where you are in your business. Those just starting out will probably make less than those who have been building their contacts and networking for a while. (Raina is a good example of this. She's been a pro for several years now and her business is booming, vs. some of the newer members who are still building a client base.) Location and weather can be hard to deal with. It's easier for mermaids to work year round in warmer climates, for instance, and in regards to location- I can make more now in one hour where I am now than I could in three or four parties in upstate NY. The client demographics are just different.

I would assume you would start out having a second job, or if not, it would be good if you're comfortable living really close to the wire. Hopefully business would pick up for you and then you could drop the second job :)

It depends on how much work you get. If you land a specific job, you could figure it out, but if its all freelance stuff, its harder to nail down an actual salary. I like to call myself a professional mermaid even though ive only been paid.... once. shhhh...

I've only been paid once, too, but I'm still a professional mermaid. I think being a professional mermaid is more about intention and the work you put into, well, working as a mermaid.

I agree :) I guess if we were being technical I would be more of a volunteer mermaid ;)
