Writing on silicone?

I'm treating my scale sheets basically like fabric and need to be able to mark them with my measurements to create a pattern. So far nothing holds up - sharpie stays liquid on the surface and rubs off, ditto for fabric pens and alcohol markers. Ballpoint pens and pencils failed, too. Anyone out there had success writing on silicone? I'd prefer not to use more silicone mixed with pigment just because I'm going to be really really tight to make the whole tail with the amount of silicone I have.

Did you try acrylic paint? I use it for pretty much anything- shoes, walls, furniture. Haven't tried it on silicone, but it may work. A cheap bottle will be maybe $3 or $4 at your local craft store. With the way acrylic behaves, I wouldn't be surprised if it dried and then could be rubbed off very easily once you don't need it anymore (think of the way Elmer's glue kind of forms little cylinders when you rub it off your skin- like that).

Acrylic paint won't stick to silicone unless you mix it in with the silicone. I suggest you use pins. You can stick pins in silicone and they won't damage it, the hole will disappear when you pull them back out. You should be able to mark out areas with pins.
