Couldn't find a good doll thread to put this in so I started a thread. I will be slowly (in my spare time) modifying this Monster High "Lagoona Fire" doll into a doll representing my mersona.

Anybody else like to modify dolls? :)

Very cool! I am a doll lover and while I usually prefer 18" American Girl dolls, I own quite a few Monster High and Ever After High dolls that I enjoy customizing (I love doing custom painted faceups!). Your lagoonafire custom looks amazing! I have always wanted to make a good one but am stumped how to make one that has a jointed tail (I'd want the mermaid to be able to bend her tail in the knees). Yours looks fantastic though! After seeing your thread I am inspired to trying making a tail that fits. I even have a spare Lagoona I might consider customizing ;)

Nice! I'm probably going to remove her legs at the knees so she can still sit but the tail has some flop to it.
I've never done this before, I'm kinda winging it. I'm considering selling monster high silicone tail skins if it works out though, so we'll see how it goes.
I'd love to see your face-ups!!

I keep looking for beat up monster high dolls at places like goodwill specifically for this purpose, but I haven't had any luck yet. I love the idea of taking a worn out doll and making her into something new.
I look forward to seeing how she turns out!
Does she have a name yet?

Yeah, she's pretty neat but again doesnt have the articulation in the tail. Thats why I never bought her.
Oh and Coyote, I'd LOVE to buy a silicone tail skin sometime from you ;)

That's what I wanted to do as well, with no luck. :( my friend knew I was looking for a Lagoona doll to remake and when my birthday came up he surprised me with her. :) Initially I felt a little guilty for going about this on a new doll but she's just too perfect for it.
Nope, no name yet. Lol.

I love Sirena Von Boo! But yea, same here. I'm not really a fan of the immoble tails on dolls. :(

Haha! Good to know! This makes me rethink the one I'm sculpting now. I think I'll make all the fins a separate mold then. So I can better customize. Might even have the fluke molds be separate so I can have mix and match flukes too. Hmmmmm... Lol

Ooh, ooh I love monster high! I will admit though, when I saw sirena, I was literally like OMG A MERMAID DOLL THATS NOT PINK AND BARBIE! NEED! I, uhh, might have bought her straight away. But she is so pretty! Lagoona is great for a mermaid custom, especially with her scales and arm fins. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I lucked out, the only reason this one has scales is because she's a "hybrid" with a dragon girl lol
I like sirina too, i just cant get into the fluke shape. :)

I collect ball jointed dolls and paint them as well some of the more unique monster high girls. I also have an Ursula doll. You're doing great sculpting her tail!
If you're looking for some jointed tail inspo, look for Asleep Eidolan's ball jointed mermaid girl. Good luck with your project!
How far did you get on these?

We had to move so...she's in a box somewhere. I was having issues with the sculpt to be honest. It's so small...

I love Monster Highs! I've been meaning to make some cloth tails using scale-textured fabric a friend gave me but so many other projects to do first....
Oh, btw, I saw some of you say MH are hard to find at thrift shops. A lot of Goodwills are filtering them out, actually! Many things deemed collectible are sold on their ShopGoodwill auction site. Its pretty handy for custom bodies though since they're sold in bundles and still very very cheap. You can even search by area and pick them up in person a lot of the time. (its also a great source of cheap bulk jewelry or craft supplies since they'll literally sell it by the pound)

Great! I really like how you sculped the tail! Are you going to do more modifications?
I recently watched a video where some guy made a Monster High doll into a mermaid with articulated tail.
I don't have any Monster High dolls myself, but I do collect Ever After High. There will be a character who is the daughter of the Little Mermaid, but I have no idea what she's going to look like.

Gorgeous! I adore Monster High, though my collection is fairly small. Sirena (of course), an Operetta, Casta Fierce, and my favourite, Cupid. I haven't done any doll mods yet, but I plan to! A few years ago the Disney Store released a mini doll set of Ariel and all her sisters (http://as7.disneystore.com/is/image/DisneyShopping/6070040900880?$full$), and I bought it. I want to restyle them so they look more like the way they look in the movie. I just haven't yet because I'm scared of messing up lol.

Nice job, Ariel Starfish! What kind of doll was he?
To be honest, I've never seen Mako Mermaids (*puts it on the To watch list*) so I can't really say wether he looks like the character or not.

Frankie has more of a Naga thing going on, with a snake tail. There's also a Toralei mer doll that is lionfish-inspired. Unrelated to Great Scarrier Reef, it looks like the Finnegan Wake dolls have tails that bend at the knees. I don't know how easy it would be to put that tail on a female doll, but maybe?

I was considering taking her legs off at the knees, drilling holes in her thighs and making a solid silicone permabottom for her. I want her tail floppy :)
I do think those designs are cool though, is it for a new movie?

Yeah, it seems to be for a new movie. I really like that two-headed mer! And the cecaelia.
