Ambitious first tail!

Here is the design for the tail and top based on a Rosetail Betta.

Do they read as a cohesive whole?

Here are the fabrics I have earmarked for this. Also planning on using metallic black and metallic blue paint to add the outline of scales (metallic to catch the light. Also adding some sequins to the speckled area.

How do most of you affix sequins usually? Adhesive? Stitched on? Any methods I should deffinitly NOT use?
Does anyone have any similar recommendations for fabric tail waistbands, especially for very squishy mermaids?
Also, I've been planning on sewing channels into the sides of the fluke for industrial zip ties. I figure this will add a bit of structure to the tail and allow it to keep the betta shape and not clump up together but still have a large degree of flexibility and fabric flutter. Has anyone experimented with this?

This is going to look so cool when you're all done! I think Mermaid Wesley experimented with adding zip ties to the fluke (but I may be remembering wrong), but I remember zip ties and gorilla glue, not fabric channels. That sounds like a neat idea though, for a more flawy fluke. I'm planning on using this method (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?4750) to extend my fluke a bit to give it some more shape, maybe that could work for you if the zip ties don't?
I haven't personally had any dealings with sequin tails, but there's a whole slew of notes and topics on them here (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?2633-%26%239734%3B%26%239888%3BTAILMAKING-REFERENCE-INDEX%26%239888%3B%26%239734%3B-Look-here-BEFORE-you-post-any-questions!). I think they're usually sewn on, though. :)

Wow!!!! This tail looks so amazing!!! :jawdrop: I know another member (ill try and find her thread and link it here) used a method of gorilla gluing zip-ties then covering that with duct-tape for her extension and as far as I know it has gone fairly well.

That is really pretty! When I did my fabric tail, I used a really wide piece of elastic for the waistband (I'm fairly squishy) and if you make it just tight enough to hold the tail on but not too tight, it works really well.

Rennara, I was skimming through, and as a fellow squishy mer, I can recommend 2" wide elastic for the waist of your fabric tail. It doesn't have to be super tight and will lay flat against your tum. Seraphina used it in her tail and it looks great. In my fabric tail, I encased the elastic and tacked it down in four places to keep it flat.
