Mermaid and Merman Schools in Florida

I'm looking for a place where I can learn to swim as a merman, and I was wondering there is an academy or school with an instructor that can teach me how to swim with a tail in Florida. I've been digging, but I haven't found a place that is willing to teach a 20 year old guy how to swim with a tail.:(

I live in Central Florida, but I can travel easily to Daytona or New Smyrna Beach if I have to. Tampa is a little more difficult for me, but if that's all there is, I might give it a shot at least once. I'm emailing a guy from the Mermaid Academy about different camps or schools, but I'm also doing my own digging at the same time. The thing that brings me to the biggest pause networking a social meeting over the internet is the simple fact that, while I sincerely believe everyone here is nice and I can trust them, this is the internet, and I haven't seen anyone face to face. My hopes is that a school or camp can help with that.

I think that places that teach how to swim in a trail are still rather uncommon, but why do you specifically need it to be a school for merfolk? I'd look for somewhere you can learn to swim with a monofin. If you can do that, swimming with a tail is more or less the same (except a little more drag, and your buoyancy might be a little different).

Malinghi is right. A lot of places will allow a monofin if they allow regular fins. In Florida, we have a lot of bodies of water! It's always best to practice first in a monofin anyway just to get use to the different movement. If you can master that, the full tail will be a piece of cake! Good luck!

I'm not too worried about the dolphin kick because I've had a lot of practice with it as a varsity swimmer for two years in high school. I've been hitting the public pool with my bi fins, and I still have the skill for dolphin kicking. The reason I am interested in a school or camp isn't necessarily because I need it to be one of those. I'm just looking for a means of meeting other mers. I am just being cautious about getting to meet people I met over the internet. I would be more than happy to go to a meet up because I want to meet other mers. However, I've never seen anyone here face to face, and I'm just trying to stay safe while trying to meet other mers. My personality is weird because I want to both rush out to meet other mers while at the same time I'm being cautious. Does any of that make since?

Yeah, that totally makes sense. The internet is a crazy place, and you can't be too careful.

At the same time, the fact is that it's become more common for people to connect in real life with people they meet on the internet. Many people in this community talked to people online and later met up. Some ways to stay safe with strangers: talk to people online and get to know them before you meet. Also, people feel more comfortable meeting with a group then they do meeting one on one. And meeting in public places like a beach is also a good idea.

To find people near you use Facebook and MerNetwork, and start talking to them. While mermaid classes are uncommon, there are lots of merfolk that meet to hang out. If you meet some online you might be able to get invited to existing meet ups.

I'm working on that right now, and I'm getting an order ready for my first tail. My only problem with fin fun tails, is that I'm not sure if they wanted me to measure below my butt or around it. I'm pretty good with my hands, but I want my first tail to be made by a professional. I kinda said the same thing about the internet to someone who invited me to a group, but I've been out of the social life game for so long. I'm afraid I might have pushed them away, and I guess I have no idea how all this is supposed to work now. I'm just to used to becoming friends with people I meet in my day to day life.
