View Full Version : Convincing the audience?

This is a question for all of the pro mers out there, especially those who do parties or beach events. I'm wondering how you convince all of the kids that you are a real mer if they see you putting on your tail? What kind of explanations does everyone here use for this?
(I ask because I expect to be swimming mostly at public beaches this summer where I will need to get into my tail right there at the water's edge... in front of everyone. I am currently in the process of making my fist spandex tail.)
Thanks for any/all input. I am dreading the many questions I just know are coming soon... I hope I can be prepared before it begins.

Honestly, lots of kids won't notice, or will forget. A kid saw me put my tail on and immediately asked if I was real. They WANT to believe a lot of the time. Try to do it quick and put a towel over your tail before and as you put it on. Viola! Magic!

The towel is a neat idea, will have to get a big beach towel. Thanks! :)

I've been thinking about that too considering my mertender is my friend (a tiny girl who's 100 pounds when wet :D). Maybe you could tell the kids something along the lines of a selkie story? Y'know, how you can shed your skin (or in this case, scales) and walk around among the landlubbers for a while?

Lol there's a big rock I can hide behind. >.< Try that, or the towel idea. :)

Another great idea :) Maybe will have to combine the 2.
