Men's Mer-Blazer

I decided to tackle a new project. I am so tired of the bleak options for clothing for guys. Brown, black, beige, navy...yawnville. I wanted a fun blazer to toss on with jeans so I am creating one in a deep violet velvet and have started airbrushing the fabric at the wrists and lapel in a rich teal. So far so good. My plan is to illustrate a mermaid on the back and add thread accents, maybe a few crystals. Pictures to follow very soon.

Sounds cool, I have seen a few other color blazers on guys but only at a ballroom dace class where a few of the Junior instructors liked to stand out from the crowd.

Ok, so I fired up the airbrush and finished painting the teal at the cuffs, lapel and sides of the jacket. The pic doesn't do the color of the velvet justice. It's a deep ink-violet. I'm happy with the front. Next, I will be illustrating the mermaid on back and sewing some gold thread into her hair. I haven't ever painted on velvet before so this should be interesting!

Thanks SeaStar! I have the mermaid all painted in. I decided to have her sit on an anchor. Tonight I am adding some gold threads in her hair and some translucent scales for some sparkle on her tail.

Thanks Dan! It's coming along. I should have pics of the mermaid (on the back) in a couple days. I want to add some Swarovski crystals in different sizes for bubbles. If I'm going to do this I may as well go over the top. lol

Here's the finished blazer! The mermaid is done and I added the Swarovski Crystals for bubbles to give it a little sparkle at night. Now all I have to do is wait for cooler weather to wear it!

Oh wow! Everything about this blazer is amazing. I totally agree that men's jackets can be a yawn; they could use some extra pizzazze. (Is that a real word? Hmm.)
