Seam-less neoprene tail - Take 2

We'll after the first attempt with too thick neoprene the seams didn't hide as well as I'd hope.

But it's nothing to get down about!! pick our flukes up and try again.

So far using black/white 2mm neoprene and looking much better than the first attempt. I ordered my neoprene Tuesday afternoon (last week), got a call of Thursday lunch time that they were trying to deliver it. Seriously shocked it came that quick. Now waiting for paint to arrive.

Part one and two of seaming is done, still a couple things to do before I think the seams are good enough. (yes I'm fussy lol)

Scale test with my stencils. Not liking the colour the purple turned, its darker in the bottle and on the online swatch sheet which is what I wanted :(. Might have to get another colour and try again.

Maybe you have to apply a second coat to get the darker color? I think it's pretty as is~

Seraphina:it worked a little, juste have to wait and see how the whole thing looks together :)

Quick progress picture. Just getting 2 of the 3 sized the scales down on the front (small miscalculation but eh) before filling in the gaps (as seen lower down) and doing the other colours.

Thank you ^_^. I used E600 (or 6000, too tired to think presently). I've also sown inside to make sure it doesn't come apart. ..though on my slug tail the zip at the back isn't sown in only glued and I've done 2 dry events and swam in it once, and it's stuck together really well.

I'll post a pic when I wake up with how it fits.

Painting tip no. 342: Make sure the 'lift and peel' seal is actually sealed to the jar before shaking it up. Otherwise said fabric paint will end up everywhere in big gloops and be hard to get out of things. It also wastes a decent amount of the tub. :(

fits like a glove, love the seaming you did an excellent job.. how do you find swimming in Neoprene?? i tend to float, when im stationary i rise to the surface.. i hate it. perhaps im too light.

It's like a second skin ^_^. Thank you, hopefully it's hidden a little more once the painting is done.

I float, my slug tail I wore 2kg of weight and due to the bunched up neoprene which was my fluke that kept making me rise still...I may need 3kg or an ankle weight for that. If i floated on my back i slowly sunk when I exhaled, but the fluke stayed up. It's quite nice to swim in otherwise besides the float. We took a video and staying down took quite an effort.

Funny note: My dad came into my room and looked at my tail. he said "it looks like those things on pine trees....the cone looking things"...I say back "pine cones?" XP, was funny at the time.

Breaking news! !! I think I figured out what to do with the fluke :D. A gradients from blue through purple to black split into 7 segments to go with each point on the botton. Sounds quite plain but should look nice

Update time: I ran out of paint so have to wait for the mail next week. Started on the fluke, there's going to be 2 more shades of purple in between before they get shaded/blended together to make a gradient to black at the bottom.

Well, after finally completing an embroidery project and a few other things, I got back to the tail!!!.

Excuse bad phone camera pics but the front is done ^_^, and the back I have just started the first coat of paint for the scales, which are all basically there just not filled in properly.

Oh good someone already asked about the paint type. I thought it was lumiere but I wasn't sure. That really is a stunning paint job! Would it work on regular swim fabric or is neoprene the way to go?

I have used it on my fabric tails, does fade/loses shinyness after a few swims though. But you just have to have something in between the fabric so the paint doesn't seep through and mark the other side.

I haven't forgotten about this tail, it's just slow as orders and work have been taking my time >_< almost finished the back scales.

IT'S DONE!!!...well besides the internal stuff I have to do. But the painting is done.

The fluke hasn't got the same pattern as the other side as I stuffed it up and just went with the flow to fix it. Also it's the back so as my dry tail, doesn't matter. Tomorrow my pod and myself are going to the beach to do a photo shoot!!! So better pictures soon.
