Trying To Make a Decision Here On a Mertailor Tail - Yo Yo Weight Problems

Hi merfolks,

I need some advice here... So I was going to buy a silicone or partial silicone tail from the MerTailor, but after watching some YouTube videos (I was investigating what the bad reviews are about exactly), I absolutely will not risk my money on a silicone tail from him. Also, I realized that a personal problem I have related to a medication that causes my weight to yo-yo from 171lbs at the most to 130lbs at the lowest absolutely MUST be considered here! For this reason, it's obvious that I would be crazy to not go with anything other than spandex. So I watched some of the videos of the Weeki Wachi Mermaids who use his spandex and performance spandex tails. They're beautiful! And fortunately, I haven't found any bad reviews related to them. The thing I need to know though, is with a shifting weight like this, would I better off getting performance spandex or regular? I don't want the seams to get stretched so that eventually start tearing nor do I want the tail to slip off at my lower weights. I tend to have a mean average weight of about 140 to 145lbs, which I'm at right now. So what do you guys think of his spandex tails? Have their been major complaints about them? (I couldn't find any). And regarding the weight issue, would it be better to get performance spandex or standard spandex? I have an AquaTails tail right now, and since it's made from swimsuit material, it accommodates my changes just fine - however it's not very aesthetically nice or realistic in any way. It's like have a long swimsuit on with a fin in the end. I want something that's form fitting with a higher quality fabric. Before anyone suggests it, no, I cannot make my own tail. I have no idea how to sew and with my ADD, I would end up going nuts and ripping my hair out trying to learn to sew from YouTube videos and such. So what do you guys think - before I spend any money...

I can totally recommend Mernation's fabric tails. I have one myself and I love it. The sizing was just a bit off and Mernation offered to alter it for free (I just had to pay to get it to them) after reading my review here on mernetwork. They approached me. I was just going to take it up myself.
A friend of mine bought a Mertailor performance spandex tail and it was sized wrong. When she approached the Mertailor about it, he wouldn't do anything and was rude.
I cannot say enough nice things about mernation.

Just heard back from the MerTailor staff. They said... "Natalie,

You probably would want to go with a regular spandex which for the base price comes with a single piece of chiffon on the bottom. With the performance the lining on the inside will restrict the stretch. The spandex is pretty stretchy. We make the tail size very close to the sizes you provide us. The quality of spandex we use is quite good with a 2-3 (generous) stretch factor. It has good memory but constant max stretching will wear it more quickly. Its like a bathing suit.

Because you won't be buying silicone, you could buy a two spandex tails, one in the bigger size and one in a smaller one, because a weight shift like that is pretty big, and that way your respective tails last longer, and fit better and you'll feel more comfortable.

While I cannot attest to how their fabric tails work, I can say that MerNation is a wonderful company to work with! They always answer questions in a timely manner, and work with you to get the best tail you could ever want! They are also VERY fast with production and shipping!

This is what I would do. OR buy one in the bigger size and have a really stretchy waistband that'll cinch down to the smaller....but honestly I would just get two.

Honestly you shouldn't weed out Mertailor quite yet. make sure that all the reviews and videos that you are using for your research are recent as a company can improve through time. also dont be scared to email them about any concerns with customer service or tail quality, and if they don't answer you the way you wanted, tell them. That said DO NOT spend your money on something until you are completely sure that you can trust them.
