I'm from the Ann Arbor area in Michigan. (That's the south east for those not familiar with the cozy mitten). I am also fairly new to the community. I made a tail, but I guess the fabric was too flimsy or the flippers I had were too rough, but the tail got tore up after swimming just a couple of times. I decided to break down and just buy a couple of tails because I just don't have the time to make another one. I am a mother of a two year old, a wife, and a student, so time is very limited. I'm getting them from tails4u.webs.com, from Mermaid Aubery. I'll report back when I get them.

Right now I am working on my mermaid drawing abilities. I will post some before too long. Anyone who would like a free mer-portrait, just let me know and I'll make one.

I visit the UP almost every summer. We have a cabin 20 min from Superior, Im not sure where exactly, but it does have a stream connecting. Looking forward to swimming that area, lots of rocks and sunken things.

I think that would be fantastic Sirena! I mean we are on some of the biggest and most picturesque lakes in the US, we should defiantly take advantage of that.

Isn't lake Michigan like...poisonous or something? My best friend had to move to Milwaukee last year and he lives in whitefish bay, right by the shore. He says the lake is rancid, reeks of dead fish, and has a lot of gunk floating in it. I'd move to Milwaukee to get an apartment with him, but the lake is the one thing that's keeping me away.

Lake Michigan is a HUGE lake, similar to the ocean in how parts of it can be very dirty and parts can be pristine. Personally I've been several times to several different locations and every time was absolutely wonderful.

I have been to Indiana Dunes 2 times and only saw the lake from the beach, but one thing I do know is there are sharks in lake michigan.

Although it is certainly possible for there to be sharks (only Bull Sharks) in Lake Michigan the probability is exceptionally small. With the original odds being, if you are a beach goer you have a 1 in 11.5 million (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shark_attack) chance of getting attacked by a shark. I would assume that getting attacked in the great lakes would double those odds if only by way of only one species could make it to the lake, it would have to actually find it's way to the lake through channels and water ways, and it would actually have to be near the shore near where you are (which considering it has a 1,638 mile long shoreline). Over all I would say your odds of getting attacked would be so slim you should be more worried about quick sand.
