Regarding swimming in the ocean, should free diving be learned first?

The question is pretty self-explanatory. I'm prepping for two upcoming events: a mermaid training session and a meetup (we'll be swimming in a freediving spot at a marine reserve).

No. Not unless you're planning on free diving? Free diving and mermaids are just two different hobbies that sometimes go together. Like synchro swimming. Or diving. But one Is not Dependant on the other.

I find you just gotta go slow and be safe with ocean swimming. A bigger monofin like competitor works great in the ocean.

I think there's only a handful of actual freedivers who are mermaids.
