Hi! Long time, no sea! (Yes, I just made that pun.)

I need some information from people who have seen tails from multiple tail-makers. Looking at my friend's Mernation tail, the silicone is cast a lot thicker than my Merbellas tail. I'm looking at ordering a new tail sometime in the future, and this got me wondering: how much of a difference is there in the thickness of tails from different makers?

I'm specifically looking for info comparing the thickness of Merbellas, Finfolk and Mernation tails, but if you want to throw others in, that's fine. Obviously, I'm looking to compare silicone thickness so only silicone tail makers would be useful.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I think Mernation is the thickest, they reinforce certain areas too to make them thicker.

I think it varies and tail makers will do thinner or thicker if you ask. I found mernation tails thicker because they layer colored silicone for some of their effects similar to Jesse. ( I saw many first hand at merfest and noticed some colors peeling off a bit hence how I could see it was layers) but more recent tails I've seen from them seem more airbrushed.

You and I have gen 1 merbellas tails and because she hand painted those ones they're a but thicker I find. When I saw christomers silicone tail from mertailor I'd say it was on par with thickness for merbellas except the seams inside were sloppy and really thick.

I find the thicker and less textured a tail is it can take more of a beating. But it's also heavier and less stretchy ( like our Jesse one) the thinner and more texture you add the more places for splits and cracks IMO
Based on the several tails we own and what I've seen at cons.

Maybe we can get members to take close up photos to show? I can't imagine you're the only one with the question.

I've been curious about this, too. From the photos I have seen, AniaR's assessment seems spot-on.
The thicker quality of Mernation's tails was noticeable to me right away, even just in photos and video. For me personally, if money were no issue, I think I'd go with Finfolk due to the combo of skill with the airbrush, and the sturdiness of their tails. Merbella Studios is also a favorite because of those amazing sculpts and airbrushed designs, but I'd want a slightly thicker tail body.

I've seen a finfolk tail up close (Kelda's) and I think the thickness was spot on, not so think that it looked thick, but enough so that it looked sturdy. I have no other tails to compare to, sadly, since my Merbellas is a partial and I've never seen a mernation.

I've seen a couple of finfolk and a couple of merbellas, and the only Kariel silicone tail at the moment, and finfolk is the thickest of those three and is pretty durable and nice. My merbellas is pretty thin, thinner than I like, and so lately I've had to be Merdoctor but it's only little bits here and there and I do use it multiple times a week and it has been used a lot in the two years so I think on the whole it's lasted quite a while. The new tail Kariel is making for me is thicker than my merbella (bc I asked) so I'll report on how that is compared to the other two when I get it in a couple of weeks :-)

I can't speak to any others but my Mernation is 1/4 inch at the waist and the fluke is just over 1/2 inch.
