Wanna find a Merman name with a personal meaning

Hi guys

I'm a new guy in mermaiding, looking for a job to start making my own tail and mermaiding is part of a important new step in my life. I'm ending a health care, overcoming depression and having a new beggining in my life; making analysis I discovered a lot of things and a lot of things started to change. I pulled away from friends who did me wrong, I'm leaving college to make another who is my trully dream, breaking with bad habits, everything is changing and I'm really proud and happy with it and mermaiding is inside this contest.

I REALLY start again from the beggining and most of all, starta again is changing myself to a better person, I want to change fully.
The name is something VERY IMPORTANT in a life of a person in many ways and for some have religious or mystical connotation, shaping your life and giving you specific gifts and being something like a blessing at the same time.
New step in my life, new beggining, new name. I don't want to be "Gabriel" no more. My "first birth" name reminds me of a lot of sadness and a bad time in my life, I want a new name to forget this things, at least as a merman, or using like a nickname for those who are close and beloved. But I want a name with this meaning. Start again, learning to live, gratitude. I don't want any biblical name just because I'm not christian, and I'm not jewish. Nothing against but I don't want to start again with another biblical name, I never liked biblical names. Such an irony...

I'm looking for suggestions.

HEY! I've been playing around with those words and here is what I got

discere -> "Learning" in latin
νερό = nerò is water in greek

You could mix them together, for example Discerinero or so

It would be cool to have a mythological name

A very cool name would be Eosnero, in fact, Eos is the goddess of the dawn, but also of new beginnings.
Your name would mean "New beginning in the water.

Wow thanks, I'm really glad with your help!!!!!! Memaid Isabel and Yulia I'm strongly inclined to adopt one of your suggestions, the names are VERY good. I've thinked "Koi", carps have a strong meaning in chinese and japanese culture and I liked it. The "koi" carps needs to swim up the river to reproduct and this is a herculean effort, and a lot of them die trying. There's a chinese legend about a "Dragon Gate" in China that crosses a waterfall. The carp who jumps high enough to cross the gate would become a dragon. It's a metaphor for perseverance and effort.

Behind the Name also has a meaning search, you just have to click on the little gear shape by the search bar. Using that and the words you suggested, I found the names Mayamiko, Frode, Irfan, and Xue. I'd also like to suggest Talib (seeker of knowledge), Domagoj (grow, heal, foster, nurture), Renatus (born again), Arata (fresh, new), Pilirani (perservere, endure), or Asier (the beginning).

Since you mentioned you speak Portuguese I tried to find some good names of that origin, but the best I found were Netuno (Neptune), and Zeferino (Zephyros, god of the west wind).
