Merfolk sun protection?

So I have very fair Irish skin. Minutes in the sun without protection can give me a burn! I am currently recovering from a bad burn through THREE coats of sunblock. (Apparently the spray kind is not for me.) I plan on buying a full rashgaurd top for practice swimming but it wouldn't be very mermaidy without tweaking...

So how do you mers deal with sunblock or sun coverings?

P.S. it is so maddening to not be able to go in the pool right now when I JUST got my monofin! :(

My sister says that if you didn't wait a few minutes, it would have come off. (I knew that. *Facepalm*) She also says to always reapply- I don't need to, but paler people should.
Her favorite sunscreens are Neutrogena, sport sunscreens, and waterproof sunscreens.

You can always do this and rhinestone it up. but it'll give you more coverage. I plan on getting one for germany because I'm sure that water is gonna be cold and my little hawaii fins are gonna have a tough time adjusting.

@Wake: Well the three coats was reapplying, one of which was a woman in line behind me informing me she was spraying me with her sunblock cuz I was too red. :P I had a sport spray with a high spf, when I went to find a creme all the spfs were like 50 or 70. What's up with that?

@Harmony: That's a neat idea! Not sure how much UV protection it would give, I'd have to look into it. "Nude" tones also tend to look odd on me with how pale I am, again just a matter of research. Very creative idea, it would be fun to decorate!

@Dan: Unfortunately I am pretty far from the ocean but whenever I do get to go ocean swimming I certainly want a sunblock that won't hurt my fellow fishies!

I use babyblock by Coppertone. It works very well on my irish skin.

I'm a ginger mer, so I usually bring an umbrella whenever I go to the beach and bring SPF 50 with me. If you're going in the water, even "waterproof" sunscreen comes off so reapply it frequently.

I use Shisiedo Ultra Sun Protection Wet Force. it actually provides MORE protection once you get in water, it starts as SPF 50+ and works for 80 minutes, when you get in water the protection goes up to 70

The higher the spf, the better sun protection you're getting. When I go to the beach, I'll put on 50+ or 60+, depending on what I can find at the shops. I use waterproof sun cream that lasts for 4-6 hrs.

Remember that you want to put on sunscreen 30 minutes before going in so that your skin can absorb it, else it will wash off...which I see when I backwash the pool filters and it looks like milk.

Next time I'll be sure to put the sunblock on in a bit more advance to make sure it is set in. I always go for the highest SPF I can find, which now seems to always be in spray. A lot of people told me I was burned because I used a spray but they may just be making the same mistake of not putting it on in enough advance.

I may make a new thread in "Tops & Clothing" for ideas on some mermaid-y shoulder coverings for further sun protection. Thanks everyone!

I get sunburns quickly too, so when I practised with my tail I was wearing a t-shirt. One of the kids asked me why I was wearing one. I said I took it to look like one of those funny tourists on the coast. They believed me :P
I find that the creams work better for me then the sprays, but that is my preference. I always wait till sand doesn't stick to me any more before I go into the water.
