Soooo I got the itch and an idea to make a more flowy tail, now that I know mermaiding is my thing. The hubs doesn't know, but I blew $50 at the fabric store on swimsuit fabric and some sheer bits for fins. I've been watching tutorials and reading threads so i hypothetically understand how to do it. I want to do something snowy with just a hint of sparkle. :3
I feel like I'm spamming the forums with useless threads, haha. But anyways, here is my basic fabric choices. I'm rummaging in my fabric stash for other diaphanous materials for fins.
Thanks for reading! I'll post updates soon. 31242

That fabric is gorgeous. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive in the mail. I had fun flopping around on the floor the other night making a duct tape dummy of the lower half of my body.

Haha I can only imagine. XD duct tape dummies scare me. I've made them for dolls before And I always end up making a huge mess and it always looks warped and goofy. So I'm just like ehhhhh let's try to avoid them.

Well it helps if you have someone on hand to help you. I didn't so I managed as best I could. Since I'm just making a fabric tail I'm not really worried about it being a little warped. If i was doing a silicone tail I'd definitely wrangle a friend into helping me.

Stayed up waaaaaay too late (I work in 6 hours haha) but I made some progress. It's too loose so I need to take it in. Have the fluke to do and other fins to add, but the dorsal is on. Then I have the painting to do. That's what I'm most looking forward to. Pardon all the debris on my floor.

Oh nice! Better to make it too big, easier to take something in, not so easy to let something out.

Made some more progress. I have to take it in a little bit. Also learned that way I was attaching fins isn't the most efficient so I'll come up with something else. I may buy some more of the Galaxy sparkly print for the fluke.
After I get the measurements adjusted, I'll get to work on the fluke. I'm putting that off for a bit while I decide what monofin to replace my finfun monofin.

What I did first was kind of make a binding out of the purple fabric and sewed that to the outside. I'm not very good at sewing so it looked rough. I then cut slits and sewed from the inside. The other fins I didn't make s binding for and they worked better when I sewed them into the slit if that makes sense at all XD
What colors are you going to do your tail?

You can try sewing the fin fabric onto the tail, and then folding up the two fin sides and designing it from there.

I haven't quite figured out the colors yet for my tail.

Thanks Mermaid Wesley! And that's a good idea Mermaid Jaffa. I'm going to have to try that.

It has soooo much drag. Took it out for its maiden voyage today. I'm going to make some adjustments and test it out with my Rapid when I get it and see if that helps. :3 otherwise, it floats and shimmers and looks wonderful underwater. Pics next time I take it out. :3

Haven't had a chance to test her again. I need to wait for a better fun with more propulsion! Thankfully I have one in order now and then I can finish her up <3
