Help me help a little girl?

So our team has an adorable sweet little girl who has been a big fan of ours FOREVER. But the sad thing is she has multiple health issues. She wears a bag and also gets so sick that she's in and out of the hospital.

She comes to every public gig of ours she can. But she's missed a whole bunch because she's been so sick she needed a bunch of unexpected surgeries. She's in the hospital right now. She's so sad she wont even talk. :(

I am surprising her today, showing up in my tail with a mermaid doll for her and a mermaid costume to cheer her up. Any chance I get my girls and I have been doing little things to make her feel better everytime we see her. And we give her loads of mermaid things.

When she's not sick she's the happiest little kid you'll ever see. When she came to our adp contest award I have her a finis monofin. She loved it so much... she went to sleep at bed time with it on!

I was thinking it would be really nice to collect notes, postcards, photos, little trinkets... anything like that really from the mer community! You could mail it to me, and I'll do it all up as a box for her. That way whenever she's sick in bed, or sick in the hospital she'll have a "mermaid box" that she can pull out to look at, read, look at pictures etc to remind her that she is a little mermaid too :)

Today I visited her and she lit right up. I even got her to drink water (I told her us mermaids need it) she wore her tail the entire time, talked with me, played with me, and we got in the wheel chair and went around the hospital. there will be more video and pics soon!

I am so so so excited to share this video with you! It is my visit to see a little merling in the IWK Health Centre​ where she'd been sick for quite a while. One of the main reasons we created Halifax Mermaids​ was to help foster resiliency in kids through play experiences. I really do believe in the healing power of play based experiences. I also believe play and imagination set kids up to cope better in life and have success. Watch this video to see how a happy child can become a healthy child. Update!

She had surgery yesterday and I visited her today. She was quite sick and in pain yesterday. Had a bigger stoma put in her side. Today she was real sad, not talking, and she perked right up when I came in. She only had energy for about half our visit. We lay on the bed and watched Chicken little. I brought her some of the letters I've gotten so far and she loved them. We went for a wheelchair ride but by the time we were done she was ready to be alone.

Although the gift box is nice, there's nothing very exciting or merliscious about a black satin box, especially for a little girl.

I am plotting to get two copies of a signed children's book from my friend who wrote and published it. Yay! It has nothing to do with mermaids but it's fun and it will be signed to Miss Kiana.

SO today we went to see Mermaid K. It was such a tear jerker!

We swam up to her dock while she ran down to see us. She didn't know we were coming. All her presents from the mermaids were all over the dock. She still isnt allowed to swim. We visited with her for a while and then went to open her gifts, then we used mermaid magic to have legs and visit her home. I was so happy to have Iona with me it was so magical. The gifts from mermaids were overwhelming and beautiful. Her mom cried reading all the letters. They are planning on sending thank you cards to everyone. It was really moving.

Miss K has lost the hearing in one of her ears and is now partially deaf. We took a video and you may notice in the video (once we upload it) that she doesn't always respond. it's because she can't hear sometimes.

Miss K showed me all around her room and we played with her mermaid treasures and had dinner. She had lots of kisses for Iona and I and hugs and holding our hands.

After dinner we went back to the ocean to watch fireworks, when the last one flew I told her to make a wish. She said, "I wish Raina and her friend didn't have to go!" ahhh crying.

it was so beautiful I am still emotionally overwhelmed and I am so thankful I had Iona with me. I'll be posting this in Iona's Halifax thread as well.

The video will take a while but she loved her gifts so much and everyone can watch her open them. Iona and I also took some beautiful shots in the ocean.

Her mom taught me how to clean out her bag and how it works, so that someday I could be a super cool mermaid babysitter ;) We're also planning to work her birthday next month

I am so proud of her it's like night and day. She's come so far!!

Miss K is doing much better, in fact she is preparing to have her stoma removed in January! She is coping with her hearing loss and working with the local children's hospital for help. I haven't been able to see her since her birthday in early September because I had been so sick and it was not safe to visit. I am hoping to visit her soon. I dropped off this ariel doll for her and she left me the cutest voicemail. I'm going to try and find a way to record it and post it here.

UPDATE

Little miss k had surgery yesterday to reverse her stoma and remove her bag. She and her family are in good spirits but it will be sometime before we know if the surgery worked. Children do not usually have permanent stomas so the hole is usually small. But because she needed hers so long and kept getting blockages she needed to go bigger.

She's at risk for many complications and must stay in the hospital for some time.

If she is healthy enough and we are healthy enough we will be visiting her next weekend :)

her parents gave her the second necklace I wsasnt there for that. but I'll be giving her the fairy wings and a necklace from mermaid minerals when we visit her in the hospital
