View Full Version : Painted Fabric Tail!

My last fabric tail wasn't very hmm, how do I put this, nice to my thighs, I don't quite remember what fabric I got in the first place, but it was sorta stretchy and sparkly, so I just got it. Well, I made it a little too small, and the sparkly stuff started coming off leaving it very see through! So out of pure boredom (and a little bit of "I have to deal with having my mouth wired shut for FOUR more weeks now instead of only two") I went to Hancock fabrics, and got white spandex, and the tulip fabric paints. I told my dad I would pay for it on the way there, but when we got inside he insisted on paying, I don't think he expected it to come out to be $50... I offered him money but he wouldn't take it, my family is stubborn.
Anyways, I'm starting all over, but I'm excited! I made a new outline of my body with the monofin, and I would highly recommend using wrapping paper because it just makes the whole process easier.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/20b6a66de7b32146197e0bcc5df1d201.jpg
Cheers to a brand new tail!

Sounds like fun! Can't wait to see it
Good luck! Is that your fluke shape? I recognize it from your monofin thread :)

That's just the monofin outline! I have the fabric going way past the monofin so I can make it look more like a mermaid and not just straight across, but I'm still figuring out the final fluke shape!

I'm hand sewing the tail as of right now, but my cousin/aunt thing is letting me borrow her sewing machine she hasn't used because she had another kid! I'll probably hand sew it first, then do it again on a machine because I don't trust my amateur sewing skills (I got a D in middle school home ec...) but in just a few hours I've gotten down to the knee on one side done!http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/11/f85045d1840a358a58af1bf56957d35c.jpg
This entire thread is going to be picture heavy, so heads up in advance! I also plan on doing a time lapse video while I'm painting it!

Got the sewing machine! Trying it out by sewing a little bracelet that I can also try out the paints on!
Notice the name on the Coke! [emoji57][emoji39]http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/12/78e2594ca4d282d3d2538a26584cd811.jpg

Well.. I finished sewing the tail! And I painted a part of the bracelet, the tail will be just like the pattern on the bracelet except much bigger!

Wow I love the pink and gold! :swoon: This gives me ideas I didn't think of using the 3D paints to make the scale shape. I can't wait to see how the tail turns out.
Supercute scales. Tulip paints work like a dream, don't they? ;)
