Heya Mers!
I was just wondering what recommendations you all had for a first monofin, not too expensive (under 100) which is shippable to Australia!
I'm looking for something which is decent quality but affordable :3
Thanks for any replies [emoji4]

Where do you plan on swimming/using it? I have a Fin Fun mono, which is perfectly fine for flipping your tail around in shallow water such as kiddie pools and sitting at the shallow end of a pool, but not great for serious swimming in the ocean etc. Raina has a great video comparing a few common monofin brands that you might want to check out :)

I was hoping to use it for swimming in deeper water :) and maybe get some exercise out of it XD

The Finis wave and rapid are used pretty commonly from what I have seen. They are both under $100. The wave is the smaller version, US women's size up to 8, the rapid is women's 9 and up.
I have a wave as my first monofin, it is pretty nice and gives good propulsion.

Finis Wave was my first monofin too but I had trouble with the straps. They'd slip off even when I tightened them underwater. 2nd is a Mahina Merfin which I find difficult to swim in as I have no core strength! My 3rd and fave fin, is the Finis Foil. Its just the nice size to practice in, and easier to do spins and turns, AND it fits perfectly into my bag pack! Oh and the kids don't take notice as much with a smaller fin, which is great by me, as I just want to swim, not be pointed and screamed at.
I got my Wave and Foil from the Aqua Shop.

Other options under $100 are the Aquarius by Finis (which I use for practice swim) and the Hydra (which I have in my tail). Though, dunno how the shipping to Australia is for the Hydra, I know it can be a bit pricey to the states.

Its pretty expensive to post to Australia. There is a 10% discount code at Aqua shop too.

I'm looking at a Finis rapid monofin from Amazon, wave is out of the question since my feet are size 13 :( Do you all think amazon is reliable enough to get my finis rapid from?

Don't know. Never bought anything from Amazon.

Who is the supplier on Amazon selling the monofin? If Finis is the supplier then that might be okay. I have bought things off of Amazon before and have never had a bad experience. The last thing I bought from Amazon was a dive mask.
I have been using a Finis Rapid and I love it so far. I know not everyone likes the Rapid but I haven't tried on any other monofin to know a difference. It has been a wonderful starter monofin for me and my friends have used it and took to using it right away so it is very easy to pick up on. I noticed on Amazon some reviewers complain about the straps. You do have to get used to keeping the straps up at first. For me just making sure the straps are pulled up high and tight does the trick. I think at first I didn't have them up high enough on my heel and that caused them to slip off easily. This weekend I swam in my tail at a spring and the Rapid allowed me to swim down deep and swim with schools of fish without much effort. Someday I will probably try getting a different kind of monofin, but for now I couldn't be happier with the Rapid for getting me started.

What about the foot size? Does the rapid actually fit size 13 us feet?

Wow US size 13? On the Finis site it says that the rapid can be used for US men's sizes 8 to 12 and US women's sizes from 9-13. I am a size 9 and it fits me comfortably and I know my boyfriend has a bigger foot and it fits him well too and he probably is around a size 12. Hopefully someone with a bigger foot than me will reply. :)

Then a Minos (bigger version of the Hydra) will be the monofin for you ;)

I'm not sure about foot size. That is pretty... impressive.
But have you contacted Mahina Mermaid in Byron Bay. I wish (oh wish) that they would make larger sizes in their merfin, for the menfolk that like to swim with me... I think their product is amazing!!

I'm technically a European living in Australia [emoji14] might explain the big feet also when I mention I'm 6 foot 2 :/

Pretty sure the Rapid is meant to fit men's foot sizes, since it's the largest of that type of fin that Finis carries, and the adjustable strap is very accommodating. I have fairly small feet (US women's size 8-ish) but my Rapid fits me fine, and it also fits pretty well on my husband and a couple other guy friends I've lent it to. Very adjustable.
Also, I got mine sent from Amazon when I lived in Australia, though it was a birthday present from my mom so I don't know how much the shipping was. However, I've always had good luck ordering stuff from Amazon, and I've ordered a LOT of stuff from Amazon.

I had a couple of Rapids and I wear a women's size 10 C...kind of wide across the ball of my feet. They squeezed my feet to the point of cramping, but otherwise, the Rapid is a good fin. If your feet aren't all that wide, the strap accommodates foot length quite well!
PS: I killed both Rapids within 2 seasons...broke the plastic right across the balls of my feet. I took good care of them, too! I guess I just swim too hard.

I just bought my finis rapid from Amazon.com and am super happy with it. Great price and it was here in less than a week. Look at the seller tho... I made sure the seller was Amazon, not a private seller.
