A couple mer-story ideas that have been in the back of my head

The link to my old writing is in my sig if anyone is interested, but I actually haven't written in a pretty long time. I've been focusing on studying Japanese, with the goal of passing the JLPT, so my focus has not been on writing in English. In any case, what I've written when I was a bit younger is not necessarily what I would write now, as I feel I'm older, more mature, more level-headed now. Anyway, I have had a couple ideas for mer-stories in the back of my head for a while that I'd like to share with you mer-guys:
#1 A young woman finds what she thinks is an exotic shiny stone on a trip and brings it home, only to discover it's a mermaid egg. When the mermaid baby is born at her home, she loves her instantly and wants to do her best to raise her, despite the fact that raising a mermaid on land is obviously problematic, as her older brother, a doctor who examines the mer-baby for her warns her(in that scene I have ideas for his exposition about mer-biology, such as the fact that merfolk are natural vegetarians, so their teeth are a little less sharp than humans, and they do not "go to the bathroom" as humans do, instead they excrete a thin liquid of excess nutrients through their scales, sort of like sweating, which is essentially invisible to the naked eye, but if you put the water around a mer under a microscope, you'll see bacteria etc.), but the woman is lonely and always wanted a child, so she is determined to do her best to raise the merbaby. She puts the child in a saltwater pool in her house, and occasionally lets her get out of the house in a wheelchair with a blanket covering her tail. The woman and the merchild genuinely love each other, but as she grows up, the young mermaid grows lonely from being so isolated and the woman questions what to do. Based on a dream I had
#2-A few decades ago, pollution in the ocean got so unbearable that most if not all merfolk, who can turn human when dry Splash/H2O-style decided to leave the sea and live on land instead. Even though they live on land and no humans know what they are, they still try to keep their sea traditions alive and intermarriage with humans are forbidden.
