Apologies if this question has already been asked and answered, I did a search and couldn't find it.
I have a rather plain silicone tail I'd like to doll up a bit with some iridescent highlighting and scale shading for depth. Question to anyone who's painted their silicone tail; what sort of paint did you use?
How did it work out?
Thank you in advance for any tips!

There are many threads for this, check the Tailmaking reference thread.

In short, silicone can only adhere to silicone.
You can't "paint" it.
You mix silicone with pigment and brush it on.
Silicone has a "fresh window" when new silicone adheres the best, after that it will not adhere fully and may flake.

Hmmmm... I thought there were silicone based paints, or at least the same chemical base so it bonds to the latex versus sitting on top of the latex. I'll go check out the reference thread, thank you!

Latex and silicone are allergic to eachother. Latex inhibit silicone from curing so that won't work at all.

Whoops, I meant there being a silicone paint that bonds with the silicone!
Found what I was looking for in a special effects forum. So there ARE lots of silicone based paints! But not finding any great colors so far. Looks like they're used primarily for painting silicone masks and special effects appendages..the palette is mostly zombie/flesh tones...

Worth a try! Thanks!

Psycho paint is a silicone-based paint too.

Psycho paint is a silicone-based paint too.

That. And you can paint it by mixing pigments with psycho paint. It just takes an air compressor, really good paint gun, and a lot of money.

If you couldn't paint silicone, Finfolk and Merbella wouldn't be as beautifully blended as they are worth the colors.
