The Not-Quite Mermaid

Y'all can call me Folly, a nickname I've used off and on in various communities, and...

...I've always been a sea creature. I'm obsessed with water, ink, and freedom. Some of my favorite memories are swimming away from my family as ocean waves rolled around me. I dream of kelpies and krakens. Roughly half of my tattoo work has to do with water-- a kraken climbing my arm will soon meet a message in a bottle, and I have a very handsome octopus on my left thigh.

Anyway, I don't have much to say, other than I hope to have my very own tail in a few years (getting married in a year and a half, so that large cost comes first).

Oh, and I'm a certified amphibious creature compliments of the United States Marine Corps.

Welcome, Folly! My ink is ocean-inspired as well, from the weedy seadragon on my chest to my giant pacific octopus on my left arm to the sargassumn seaweed sleeve on my right arm. With more to come.:)

I know how you feel about having saltwater in your veins. In addition to the ink I am scuba certified, keep saltwater aquariums, and have run undersea D&D games for nearly 20 years. In fact I found MerNetwork when I was googling around for new players! I liked what I saw, I had a "why not?" moment and I had ordered my first tail!

And congratulations on the impending nuptials! My wife and I will celebrate 22 years of "having not killed one another" later this year!

I too adore the legends of kraken and kelpie (also selkie). À propos the kraken theme, my band, Neptune's Keep, performs a song I wrote last year called "The Kraken's Time (https://soundcloud.com/smart-small-fry/the-krakens-time)." In my undersea D&D game there was once a kraken known as Mikros. He was slain by the sea hag fleshwarper known simply as Purl, who took his tentacles and grafted them onto ten mermaids. The mermaid witches were able to harness the kraken's powers and memories.

The kraken's gladius, the semi-rigid structure within its mantle, was harvested and eventually forged into a magical sword to be used against the tentacle-tailed mermaids.
