I was a furry for about... 9-ish years, almost 10. It was a hellish nightmare the entire time and I don't think I'll ever go back to it.

A furry is someone who is a fan of anthropomorphized (or cartoon) animals. Like in Disney cartoons. It doesn't necessarily involve dressing up in a costume, though that is the most well-known part of the subculture. Art, writing, and roleplay are also very important to the community.

Suppose I should throw my hat into the ring, been a furry for a little over 14 years now. As Exdraghunt said, you don't need a fursuit to be a furry, it is just the most focussed on aspect. That said I'll hopefully be picking up my third one at the London meet this weekend. My preferred con is Anthrocon, not been for a couple of years because of the cost of flights, but I'm saving hard to go next year and now I'm hoping another mermeet happens there.

Yeah I didn't figure there was many of us. Furry fandom really takes precedence over anything in my life (hell, it IS my life) so you can still kinda consider me a 'part time' mermaid. And even at that I'm not a mermaid, I'm a hippocampus lol.

I'm a furry. I used to be more active before a nasty breakup with my ex (he was heavily involved and a pretty public and popular streamer), but I've found solace in the aquatic side of the fandom, primarily among seals and selkies. Glad to see a little crossover somewhere in the mermaid community. I talk about mermaids occasionally with a few of my seal/selkie friends on telegram.

Thrilled to meet a hippocampus. I really love seahorses, and one of my magical girl characters has a hippocampus as a familiar. His name is Caspian.
