Like, I don't even WANT a silicone tail. I really don't. They're too expensive and seem to be a lot of work for my purposes. But damn, I kind of want that tail.

Kelda, Mercrazy & Vrindavana thank you. You are right. The tails I am making do have their advantages over full silicone. They are Much lighter and compact, about half the price, still look pretty real and easier to maneuver in a smaller pool.

Hi Sabrina. A full silicone tail usually weighs an average of 35 to 40 lbs. depending on the thickness of the scales, the fluke and all the decorative fins added. This is a lycra base with a thin layer of silicone over it, a much smaller monofin and thinner, smaller fins so as not to pull on the lycra. MUCH lighter and more streamline.:) They run between 1,200 and 1,500. Thanks for asking.

Hi Ashton. There is a video I posted when the tail was complete in this thread that has some good close-ups of the color and sparkle. It was taken inside. The tail is brighter in the sunlight.

smaller pectoral fins
two heel fins
silicone/glitter topcoat
Modest striping
choice base color (5 available)
silicone waist belt

Remember, if you have read through the entire thread, the body of the tail is a pre-screened lycra. I am limited in how much I can alter color because of possible silicone rejection. The silicone coating is VERY thin in order to maintain a glossy finish and that will dull a little over time as does any "slime coat." Shipping is separate.

That is beautiful work! I like the idea of a hybrid tail. I have 2 full body fabric tails that I use with a Mahina fin. I wonder if the the same concept could work with a hybrid tail? They are basically swim gowns. (getting out of the water is comical, I kick off the fin and walk like Morticia Adams). I love how the colors reflect the light in Keris' tail.

I've taken my tail on 2 cruises. Not a problem getting it on board, just lots of weird looks as you explain your way through security. :)
i didn't try to swim in the on deck pool cause its about the size of a bathtub anyway and they have a sign saying no swim equipment.

I did take it off to use in the ports which is tons of fun!

I will be embarking on a sequined tail soon and was thinking about a full silicone after that. But seeing this is making me rethink my plans. I think i will go for a hybrid like this before a full silicone.

I think I just spent an hour reading this entire thread! This is such a beautiful tail. This would be a better option for someone who isn't strong enough to carry around a full silicone tail... like me. I don't plan on being a professional mer or anything so not sure I'll ever have a tail this nice, but sooo shiny!

Hi Lynsea. For some reason I didn't see your question on this thread. No, I don't have a link to Seavanna's method. It was an experiment Seavanna was doing a couple years ago. You may be having trouble since Seavanna was her previous incarnation and now he goes by the name Seatan, I believe.

Thank you so much Katey! Yes, it is only a partial silicone tail so much lighter and sleeker than full silicone. Smaller fins, smaller monofin, etc. I detail my process in this thread. I wanted something to swim in at the pool that was easier to get on and off than my full silicone monster. ;) And yes, I do commissions. PM me when you are ready.

Just painting some detail on the fins. I also added two small pelvic fins cut down from the original cast. Both fluke halves are cast so attaching them comes next.
