So I've decided to give away my mermaid creations tail... for free! I'm just asking shipping which in all honest may be close to 100-150 from Canada because of how heavy it is and depending on how fast you want it.

It's a heavy tail, with flaws. The silicone peels off in some places, the colour is streaky, the fluke is very heavy and doesnt drain, and it's got a few mold spots.

This tail would be ideal for a strong swimmer as it's quite heavy. It has a foil inside and fits up to a size 9 ladies. The straps are still intact. It also be ideal for anyone who just wants a "beater" tail, something that can be used when you're not worried of destroying it. Dry gigs where it needs to get bashed around, or sitting on rocks etc it'll hold up nicely for that because it's so thick. It's pretty floaty BUT IT'S VERY THICK so wearing it can feel a bit claustrophobic. I've already fixed any major holes or tears with clear stretchy line and silicone. I was originally told this had perma wet on it which is why it's shiny and would make sense as per why it's peeling off. Parts of the paint are a bit see through.

If you're someone working in silicone you can have a go at messing around with it, see about repainting it or fixing it up.

IT'S FREE. Why? Because well, we aren't using it. I don't plan on ever using it again, we can't insure it for the company, and well... PEOPLE HAVE DONE NICE THINGS FOR ME IN MY LIFE so I'd like to PAY THAT FORWARD. I don't feel right charging for it because of the state it's in as well; and it wouldnt be fair to throw it out when so many want a tail.

To get the free tail, it's NOT first come first serve. Please post here, a little blurb about why you want it, and why you think you can handle it (I'm obviously concerned about safety etc I don't just wanna unload this beast on someone and have them drown) and you should be close to the measurements. Then I'll pick someone, and it's yours. I'll invoice you for the shipping and that's it!

Here are the measurements:

waist: 31
hips: 32
knees: 20
ankles: 16
shoe size: 9 (foil monofin)
waist to heels: 41

Tail weighs 27lbs

The waistline is pretty frayed, so I think you could cut it down if needed and also it would stretch to accommodate. Here's some photos of the damage etc:

I would love to have this tail. I have always adored it since i first saw it and I was wanting to have a tail for Under The Sea week at my job. I work at an elementary school and we talked about hiring me for an after school program on Mondays call "Merman Storytime" where we read to kids and then go swimming in the pool at our local YMCA. I am the right measurements for the tail and I will be able to swim in it. I am on the YMCA swim team where i do 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly, and 100 backstroke. I hope you choose me because i really want to impress these kids and be able to swim with them on Mondays! Also I can pay shipping and send extra money as a token of my gratitude. I am also a huge fan of splash and I also live an hour away from Merfest!

Put me on the list! We are starting up a mermaid company in Houston and one of my girls is EXTREMELY talented with creating things and I think this would be the tail she needs to work on. Also, my current tail is a MC tail so I know going in exactly how these tails are.

I really love this tail, the scaling and the color ! The damage is not an issue for me.

Oh this tail has been such a cutie!

I've always been in love with how it moves under water! It's so gorgeous!

As a person with severe anxiety- due to a very bad childhood (i think you've talked to me a little about my mother), being a mermaid has been my way of coping, and coming out of my shell. Never feeling like i was good enough to have a tail, then trying to make one and having it fail, made me honestly believe that that was a sign i wasnt good enough. You have always been my inspiration, and i practically scream when you upload new videos.
My father is 72, and as some of you may know, has lung cancer in his only remaining lung. His last wish for me is to see me have a real tail before he passes, and he would buy me one himself, but he has so many medical bills he's scared that if he doesnt make sure he has enough money put away, his kids will be responsible for his medical debt.

I would love to make it happen for him, especially a tail that you have worn yourself, because he knows you by name because your videos were the ones i showed him to get him to understand the whole mermaid thing.

He has also agreed to help me fix one up if i got a second hand tail, as he knows a lot about silicone and the like.

I'd love to have this tail, but honestly I'm rooting for everyone who wants it, because I'd like everyone to have a tail and live their dreams.

Thanks! And good luck everyone!

I would love to have this!! The measurements would work for me! This would be a great first tail for me since it is already a little worn and free! Lol! I am a strong swimmer, I am scuba certified and just a couple of dives from advanced open water certification, and I am almost done with my free diving certification. I would love to use this to up start my mermaid career, there is a special little girl fighting cancer that I want to make a visit to first! And my son would be delighted to see his mommy in a tail as he already thinks I am a mermaid. I ha e been working hard lately doing school and internships and a seasonal job as a marine mammal rehabilitator. It would be nice to have a little magic in this busy crazy new single mommy life of mine. Hope you pick me, but good luck to everybody! May the odds ever be in your favor! ( nerd family over here!)

Oh my goodness I am not sure what to say. Everyone sounds so much more deserving but if I don't say something then I certainly won't have a chance at this opportunity so I might as well go for it!

Since joining Mernetwork I have been really inspired by everyone! :group hug: Recently I have been doing a bunch of research on making silicone tails just because as an artist, I have been wanting to get into more 3D works and I enjoy learning and especially exploring the overflowing fountain of knowledge that this forum has. I have been curious about silicone tails but I have doubted that I would ever be able to have one or make one due to justifying the cost to everyone around me. I think it would be a fun challenge getting some silicone and working on fixing up this tail, and also perhaps it would help me show the family that silicone tails are really special (not that other tails are not wonderful, I adore my fabric tail and I also love many other people's fabric and/or neoprene tails) and worth the investment. I think this tail would really help me get my fins wet with silicone and see what it is like.

Well, my only swimming credentials are I have been swimming since I was a baby - which I feel is a very common excuse as to why someone should be able to handle a silicone tail, so yes I have always swam and I can swim in a fabric tail with a monofin, but as far as staying safe I NEVER swim in a mermaid tail alone! By never alone I do not mean having a lifeguard on duty I mean having a good friend swimming with me who is not wearing a tail or a monofin who will rescue me if need be. I have access to pools with shallow ends where I would most certainly start off in learning how to swim in a silicone tail. I understand that this tail would not be a tail you would take with you to swim in the ocean, because without a stiff fluke that could be dangerous.

In conclusion, I have always found this tail unique looking. I am not just saying that, I honestly always liked the way the scales look so small, the fluke is so tattery yet strong looking, and the back fin looks dangerous as if it is spines on a catfish which by the way hurt, but on this tail it is good of course haha. :p

Ahhhh blarg it would be so amazing to have a tail from the super amazing Halifax Mermaids...I bet it smells like Canadian maple syrup and magic hehe. :swoon:

Okay but seriously whoever gets this tail had better do a photoshoot with it. For you people who are new or who don't post much I am most certainly talking to you.

Hello Raina :)

Honestly this is such a surreal situation and my heart is beating a million miles per hour, and I can barely type. You have always been one of my biggest inspirations, and through thick and thin I look up to you. It's in my introduction that I wrote four years ago haha! I remember when I first joined the community and you gave away your Metailor tail, I got freakishly excited. I was amazed at how nice and generous you and everyone were, and that still stands today. I would be honored to be the receiver of this tail.

For five years I've longed for a beautiful tail. I've made some and I've failed some. My dream was to make a silicone tail, and it was so close to coming true this summer. However, things happened financially and the dream was gone. I was absolutely crushed, and still am.
This is my new dream though, and I'm literally shaking while writing this. I can fix up this tail, and make it so beautiful. I've been searching around for a fixer upper, and wow, here it is. I'll turn it into something beautiful. Maybe then I'll bash it around, but with the utmost care
I feel like opportunities like this don't come often for me. I've stayed up at night wishing for a tail like this. I do believe that this tail would take so much stress off financially. My family knows how important being a mermaid is to me, and they would love to be able to buy me a beautiful tail if they could. I have the money myself for shipping, and I wouldn't have to ask my parents for a dime.

The measurements are near exact, which adds to the surrealism of this. As for safety, theres nothing for you to worry about. My breath hold is a minute and a half underwater, and I swim with my monofin every week.

Becoming a mer has changed me in so many of the best ways possible. I had no motivations, I was sad and I was angry. I do believe that mermaiding and the beautiful community has contributed a huge part to my character today. I'm confident now and I just want to love all you you guys so much. I would be beside myself if this new dream came true, and I promise that I will give my all to this community.

Thank you so much for this opportunity

Kalani

Edit: Please read
Whilst I was caught up in the rush of seeing this, I had completely forgotten one of my main purposes.

I aspire to be like Hannah, Raina, Linden, and Dana. Not just in wearing a tail, but in making a difference. Linden once said that when you have a captive audience, they will listen. She refers to the children who stare in awe at the mermaid in front of them. She uses this power for good and instills in the minds of the new generation that there are issues concerning the environment at hand, and they need to be fixed. These children are the change.

If I become the new owner of this tail, I will strive to do the same. If I have this chance, this jumpstart for a change, it will make all of the difference. I do believe that this means more than just a cool new tail, it could potentially be the spark that I've been needing for the past four years to progress in my journey.

Maybe I wrote a little more than a blurb, but my wish is to prove how important this would be to me :)

Good luck to everyone!

I would love to put my name in. As for my story. I cannot afford silicone tails outright I am fixing up a home that my husband inherited and that takes up most of my world right now. I have a design that I want to do for my permanent looking tail and have been looking for a fixer upper one I could afford and work on little by little. I do wish everyone else the best and who ever you gift your lovely tail to is a lucky mer. Thank you for letting so many people have the chance to fulfill their goals! Can't wait to see who gets the big smile!

I'd love to have your used tail. I'd like to give it to my mom. My mom and I don't really have a lot in common :( and one thing we bond over is mermaiding. She works for the government as a doctor so she's always working, she never really gets time alone and I think her and my dad's divorce took a really heavy hit on her and her father has cancer and she doesn't have any family in the state. We don't really get to spent time together because I have my job and she has hers and she works during the day and I work at night. The only time we really bond with each other is when she goes to mermaid meet ups with me, for example Coney Island and at Merfest. Mermaiding for me brought me into a whole different world and I'm not going to lie, it kinda saved my life, I was so much happier meeting everyone and having fun. I want her to have the same experience as me, as to where she can just hang out and forget about the human world and just relax. I want to see her have fun and it would be something for the both of us to do, she usually just hangs out at meet ups but I want her to experience it. I think it would be a really fun surprise for her. I think forgetting about the human world would take a lot of stress off her shoulders. I feel bad for her and I want her to be happy and I want something in common with her.
I really hope you consider me, Raina!
Have a lovely day(:

I might as well put my name in. I'm based out of Hamilton, Ontario, and I would love to get a more realistic tail. I currently use a fin fun tail for swimming, (though I am slowly working on a sequinned tail) and it's difficult to bill myself as an attraction to people when what they see in photographs is the same costume that their children have. (We'll ignore that I also sing, tell stories, run educational workshops, teach and perform swimming tricks, spin poi, belly dance and in general have over a decade of character and performing experience).

i know that this is not the greatest tail in the world. I won't be disappointed if this tail doesn't fulfil my hopes and dreams. My spirit will not be crushed if this tail experience isn't perfection. It's a costume, and it's a tool, and it could be the thing that helps me get a leg up (fin up?) to create a stronger base for my business as well as help train me for the tail that could eventually fulfil all the aforementioned hopes and/or dreams.

As as for not-drowning-ness, I have been swimming since literally infancy. My mom has videos of me in baby swimming lessons, and we had a pool in the backyard when I was growing up. I would stay in the pool as long as I could physically stand it. My breath hold is about a minute, which I fully understand is probably going to go down trying to power a tail this heavy. However, most of my parties consist of very little swimming- it's difficult to do when kids love talking to me and hearing stories so much. Though on my own I love deep water, with kids I stick to the shallows. I also do land events, such as Renaissance festivals and conventions, and the risk of drowning at these is very minimal. However, the fabric tail really stands out at these events, as I am constantly on display and don't have water for camouflage.

Also, shipping in Canada is way cheaper than crossing a border. :D

Along with adding an extra little bit onto my original post, I would like to add that I would GLADLY trim the long nails i've worked oh so hard to grow out in an attempt not to poke the tail ;)

Haha that is a good point remember you can use a towel to help pull on a silicone tail so you don't scratch it.

Is it just me or are you other mers stalking this topic like crazy like I am? The suspense has me on edge.

My pod - Utah Mermaids - suggested this to me and I'm grateful for a chance to reach out and say something.

My first big mermaid purchase actually went to Jesse. I live paycheck to paycheck and devote more money to my mermaids and my fabric tails than I should but I had a very wonderful person reach out to help me with that purchase. It's been almost a year and half since paying for that tail and I haven't heard from him since March. I wanted a refund so I could mold and cast my own tail now that I've been doing small amounts of prosthetic work in latex, silicone, and thermoplastics so I could help my other mermaids build tails and their own costumes or gear.

I've been a mermaid about 2 and a half years and have spent hours researching swimming styles and learning from the beautiful woman around me, in my pod and online. I'm a strong swimmer, have swam in surf and waves with ease in a velveteen tail and spend at least once a week practicing laps at the local pool.

I do this because it brings magic to my life and I do this because of the way children's eyes light up when they see me. I've always been attracted to that magic and one of the things I've struggled with as a performer was the legitimacy of my costume. I have gone through five tails since I began. I hand craft each one, paint each of them and have to retire them after a few months when I've put holes in the knees and in the heels.

I believe that I can breath life into that tail, with my know how of prosthetic and silicone I'd be able to refresh and refurbish. My measurements are just shy of what your tail is but even if I can't wear it or when I'm not it would be used as a training tool to teach others in my pod the differences between fabric and silicone. When I am able to one day upgrade to my own silicone tail, this skin would find its way to a new owner that needed it just as bad, just as my first tail has done.

Thank you, for this kind hearted opportunity.

I would like to be considered for this free tail giveaway on behalf of my company, The MerFriends.

The first reason I would like to be considered is the tail will fit more than one of my mermaids. The tail's measurements are just 1 inch bigger than 2 of my girls who are currently stuck using fabric tails, and would also fit me. That means three of us would be able to swim in this tail. You wouldn't just be gifting one person a tail, but a minimum of three.

The MerFriends is focused on water safety and drowning prevention, and this tail would assist us in promoting that message in several ways. All of our troupe members are excellent swimmers, certified lifeguards, and swim instructors, and we spend several hours each month in rehearsals perfecting our skills, routines, and so forth to ensure we are the best at what we do. Having a real silicone tail to work in (about half the troupe still use fabric tails) would increase our skills and allow us to explore without fear of damaging something custom made. It would also allow us to fully train troupe members in a silicone tail before they have one to ensure the performer's safety while in the tail. In addition, we would allow non-troupe members (who fit the measurements) to try it on who are interested in making that commitment to a "real" tail but want to test it out first. Not many people would buy a $1500 dress without trying it on, and yet that's what we do with tails. So, here would be a chance for some people to test out a tail to see if it's even something they want, something they can handle, in a safe and controlled environment. And since we didn't pay for the tail, we wouldn't charge anyone for that. It's a tail that needs to be shared in the name of safety!

As a professional performance troupe, we are in dire need of professional tails and have been actively seeking the least expensive ways to attain silicone tails. Fabric tails just don't stand up to scrutiny in our work. This tail would be used in professional appearances by our mermaids who don't have either a latex or silicone tail of their own yet- birthday parties, swim and smiles at the night club we are contracted at, safety day presentations at community pools, etc. It would allow those who are "in training" to graduate to full mermaids because they have a real tail. It would grant a source of income to some very hardworking and dedicated girls who are just WAITING for their chance to be that magical mermaid at someone's special event. We acknowledge the tail is not in perfect condition, but Merman Lir (troupe member) has proven himself to be very crafty and quite the gifted engineer. He has made his own latex tail, repaired my latex tail, and is diving into making a tail for one of the girls who needs one ASAP. I am confident he would be happy to work on it and help maintain it or even improve the appearance. I don't see any reason why this tail couldn't get another season or two of performances before being retired. Even as its appearance deteriorates, we could continue to use it for photoshoots in less than ideal locations, safety test swims, and for training new mermaids to handle silicone. I also spoke with our insurance agent, and he said we could insure it in its current condition (just a bit less coverage than a new, custom fit tail.) Also, any clients (who fit the measurements) who purchase a mermaid transformation package and want the Splash look could use this tail. It's such an iconic tail, and this would be a lovely one to photograph (with some editing, we understand.) This tail is not in perfect condition, but it has a long life and much still to give.

In conclusion, I hope you will consider gifting this tail to The MerFriends as we seek to be a service to the local mer-community, aide in the ongoing effort to raise awareness about water safety and drowning prevention, and allow new mermaids a chance to swim and earn a living in a real tail. Thank you for your consideration, and I know whoever receives this tail is receiving a HUGE blessing. Thank you for your kindness Raina!

Good luck everyone.

Raina - Thanks for this generous opportunity. You'll be making someone a very happy mer.

I really, really want to say that I NEED this tail, but I'm pretty sure the shipping would be insane to the UK. (I just looked it up, and actually, the shipping wouldn't be as bad as I had thought.)

My reasons are that, in raising my large family, I never have money to spend on things like this and I am getting older, not younger. *sigh* I've always loved mermaids. One of my earliest memories is of my best friend and I swimming with our ankles crossed, pretending we were mermaids.

But really, I run my own indie publishing company and create a lot of the book covers myself. One thing I am never quite happy with is photo-manipulating a tail onto someone. Having an actual tail would be perfect and make the covers for the mermaid books so much easier! I am about to publish a collection of short mermaid-themed stories and I am working on a "Daughters of Poseidon" series. (I can link you to the FB page for the series, if you'd like.) My books all tend to have an eco-theme to them, especially the Daughters of Poseidon series. (I also have a short story in another anthology about female superheroes in which the hero is a mermaid.) I am a strong swimmer, life guard trained and former swim team member. But it wouldn't always be me in the tail. For the photography for the book covers, I would use models and the photos would be above-ground.

But, no matter how much I could use this tail, and how much living paycheck to paycheck while my husband and I strive to provide for our family means I am unable to save for it, if I'm really fortunate and keep working hard, my publishing and other interests will take off money-wise and give me the extra income to start saving. And I have just read the other entries, and pretty much everyone requesting it deserves it. I can't wait to see who gets it. Hope they share pictures of themselves in it!

OMG! I'm so excited to see that post! Having a mermaid tail actually one of my biggest dream!

Here is my story! I'm a girl from Turkey. I'm a cosplayer who really loves mermaids but I cannot afford silicone =( When I make my first costume It was a mermaid from the game caller League of Legends. I wanted to make her in silicone but you know it's quite expensive so I make her costume with scales. I apply around 8000-9000 scales by hand! It took me a while but I was so happy with the result! Here is the picture of the costume (https://www.facebook.com/LuthielaCosplay/photos/a.486224934823239.1073741829.485107508268315/486225011489898/?type=3&theater ) That was like 1,5 year ago. Still I cannot afford silicone but I'm determine to make someday! So I train my self in that way. I know that I should be a good swimmer so I train myself everyday! Sometimes swimming other times do exercises! I'll be very very happy if I had the tail and I promise that I give lots of love to it <3

We don't have any mer-community in our country and actually they didn't know that people actually make their tails or buy them and swim in it! When I show them they suprise so much! If I had the tail that could inspire them too!! Omg! I'm so excited thats why they are so much exclamation mark :D

I hope someday everyone got their tails and I hope the one who has the tail gets great fun in that <3 Thank you so much for your kind offer <3

I have been thinking it isn't easy to decide. I have been reading everyone's story and trying to guess who will be the most likely to get the tail and I am really not sure. A few mers are looking very likely right now with each one having very good points.

Whoever wins needs to do an unboxing video too. :) I have never done an unboxing video and I think most of the mers replying on here haven't either so that is also super exciting!

Hello Mers while you wait here is a PNG I drew up of the mermaid tail for you all. You can use it to Photoshop over a picture of yourself to "wear" the tail in a sense. We all know only one person will get the real tail, so this is for us who don't get the tail. :) Of course whoever gets the real tail can use this picture as fanart. :)

Since it is a PNG file, you can open it in even Microsoft paint and put your own photo behind the tail drawing to make it look like you are wearing it. :)

While Photoshop will have among the best tools, there are free image editing programs that work really well. GIMP is a free open-source alternative, or Paint.net if you want a really simple interface. Or if that really doesn't work, maybe some of us who do have access to such programs could volunteer to do the editing work for others. Depending on how much time I have I would be happy to put my very basic image editing skills to work provided no one makes fun of the quality of their results. :p

For those of you who don't already have a tail and don't have Photoshop or other photo editing programs, send me a photo of yourself in the correct pose, and I will see what I can do about adding the tail to you and sending it back. I can probably even find a watery background for the picture. (It will have to wait while I finish another project though, and I am limited on how many people I can do this for.)
