As it says, I'm making my first tail. I've found some great resources searching the tags but I have 3 specific questions.

1. Using white fabric for painted fluke.

I'm using holographic green scale spandex for my tail but not for the fluke. I was thinking about using white spandex for the fluke so it might be easier to paint. Do you think that will look okay? I'm planning to use Tulip fabric paints to make it green with highlights to feign transparency.

2. What is the best paint to use for my seashell bra?

3. My tail is going to be modeled after Ariel from The Little Mermaid. She has these two, idk, floofs at the top of her tail.

I was wondering what fabric might be recommended to accomplish this look. I was thinking of vinyl, if I can find it in transparent green.

Thank you!

best paint to use for seashells is acrylic paint, which is found at most craft stores, but also buy some clear acrylic sealer spray to make it last longer( I used one by Mod Podge) Make sure before sealing the shells to let the acrylic paint dry for 2 or 3 days.

for the little waist ruffle i would use some clear vinyl then covering it with sheer organza, the vinyl will make it hold its shape better but not be too stiff.
hopes this helps :)
PS feel free to correct me if anyone knows different

Thank you!
Putting the organza over the vinyl sounds like a good idea. It'll also make it easier to get the color I want. Great!

Tulip paints are great for spandex. I've got the fabric markers from them and it makes drawing in fin lines a breeze.

Awesome! Maybe I'll invest in some of those too. We'll see what happens.
